Fires exploding in Oregon and Washington

Yesterday was a pleasant day. Last night a howling wind from the east mixed with tinder dry forests led to mass emergency evacuations. Today everything here (Eugene) is covered in ash and the sky is filled with smoke.

No rain in sight. Very dangerous situation.

1. I got a 3:00 alert on phone to evacuate. How about you? I was googling at 3:00am to find out

where Waterville Elmentary to Leaburg was. It came in fast, didn't it. I was walking the dog and saw it in a distance and then half hour later walked out and it was on top of us.

The air is a sickly yellow, ash is still falling. My BIL and SIL were at their cabin up by McKenzie Bridge and got the “evacuate immediately” warning just after midnight and made it safely back to Portland.

11. I was texting one of my kids in another state photo of 11:30 am and how it looks like sundown'ish

No dog walkers walkers bikers. They are out there in Dec and rain, but not today. It really is something. Ash coming down, a couple on phone while texting. Three years ago, we got it bad, but the last couple have left us alone mostly. This is something.

I was going to hit Florence today because of the supposed heat, but I think I am going to stick close to home.

It is hard to breathe.

14. I know. Wtf is that. I was talking to someone on here last night to someone from Florence and that

is what they said. Crazy. Crazy to have this hot in Sept.

13. So, just went out on patio cause a damn wood pecker is hitting my building and ash literally thick,

falling like a heavy snow. We do not have any that close here in EUgene, right? I have been checking. But a hell of a lot of ash to be so far away.

2. At about 5pm last evening the wind picked up and brought heavy smoke in around Beaverton.

3. It was pretty bad.

5. It hit the Seattle area around 7...

...just as I was getting home from Bellingham. The winds were strong until around 2 A.M., and brought down a tree onto some power lines a couple of blocks upwind of us. Fortunately, they didn’t start a fire, or we might not have been able to get out in time.

We know people in Auburn that are without power because of this fires. Man...

22. Over by Coos bay? I just got another alert, immediate evacuation of Marcola Valley.

23. Another alert Lowell and Winberry evacuation. That is three since early morning.

7. Same here in Florence on the coast.

The sky is burnt orange and thick smoke smell. Awful.

19. Yup. It's not super hot, only 72 on the coast, but very smokey with ash.

Not pleasant.

9. We have been evacuated...

...4 times in the last 5 years, most recently a little over a week ago for 7 days.

We live in Northern CA and have been talking about moving to Oregon or Washington as a way of getting ahead of what we expect to be constantly rising temps for the next couple of decades at least.

I guess that window is closing.

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...

15. I worked in an hotel before covid, in Eugene. I had lots staying with us doing just that. Some from

that devastating fire that wiped so many out. Campground? I was telling someone above that the last two years not bad, three yrs ago was bad also. Nothing like Calif. And I do not think Or gets it as bad as Wa, it seems.

18. I was without power from about 10 pm until 11 am. I live

in Washington state between Orting, Sumner, Puyallup and Bonney Lake. There were fires near Sumner and Bonney Lake last night. I kept hearing sirens into the night and early morning. Much heavy smoke! We are ok for now, but I am very worried about today and tomorrow.

20. I have been trying to find an easy read where the fires are. Oregon dash board makes it clear. Here

24. Very smoky and tons of ash settling out of the sky here in Eugene.

Mainly from fires East of us around the McKenzie river.

I served a couple this morning who had been evacuated from the area last night. They think they lost their home. They had their iPad and MacBook, their dog and one chicken. I bought them their lunch.

25. I-5 shut down by Ashland and part of the city is being evacuated. I was on the freeway when

it closed. They turned us around and sent us back the other way on the same side of the freeway. Looks like something out of a dystopian movie.
