Especially hate us enough to overlook every contradiction, lie, and obvious BS of Trump in their support of him?
Is it merely dog training from Fox News and Right Wing Radio? Hate us because we defend minorities and don't put religion as the center of society? Or is there more to it?

And this has been going on for a very long time. What we see now is the culmination of decades and decades of work by the Uber wealthy to divide and conquer.

(14,302 posts)where resentment builds in rural areas who dont see many government services compared to urban areas, which get their potholes filled, relatively quick police response, new construction, etc. visible examples of your tax dollars at work. Couple that with cultural stereotypes of hippies/welfare queens/whatever amplified by talk radio, and you get hate.
Theres no easy way out. If you can, get to know people on the other side. Let them know we want many of the same basic things they want: to live free, to have honest government that respects our veterans ... whatever you can think of that might get them to see that we arent the baby-raping cannibals that Q wants them to think we are. Some will be too far down that rabbit hole to be reasoned with. Others might see something in you that they can respect and identify with, which could lead to a realization that theyve been lied to for decades. Good luck.

(999 posts)When much if not the majority of society knew at least one gay person. Knowing that gay people were just as human and American as everyone else helped to counter the longstanding homophobia in society.
Maybe we should have an outreach program so that more and more Republicans know at least one Democrat and/or liberal.

(7,952 posts)I do think you're correct about urban v rural. Each side has its own superiority complex. Haters will never listen.

(421 posts)in rural areas are hidden better by being given to companies like Riceland instead of individuals.
This is called Crop Subsidies as opposed to Public Aid or "welfare".
The aid is used for support rather than improvement, which is more visible.
This skews perception so the fact that Tax money flows to rural and away from urban is obscured.

(9,090 posts)in the well known 2003 study "political conservatism as motivated social cognition" researchers identify 'avoidance of uncertainty' as a common cause of conservatism/authoritarianism. the Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI) is used to measure authoritarianism
CDD, like greed, is a symptom of sex on the wrong brain, which suggests that associating impatient satisfaction-demanding reproductive urges with the left side of the brain has been driving human thought and behavior and brain evolution for millions of years.
it had survival benefits in times of scarcity and conflict, got worse as we began to crowd the planet, and about 100,000 years ago, because sex on the wrong brain was caused by right handed masturbation, we became 90% right handed.
different cultures/civilizations/populations selected for/favored different sowb symptoms. 'old world' descendants inherited higher sowb susceptibility than 'new world' descendants, who were subjected to a lot less large scale sexual repression (eg religion) and were doing a lot less large-scale masturbating after puberty
females have less sowb in general due to mechanical and anatomical considerations and 'new world' descendants have less inherited susceptibility to sowb. high sowb conservatives see low sowb humans as a threat and something to control, limit, and destroy and have 'created' many different strategies (eg fascism) to do that. low sowb humans developed democratic forms of organization to limit and regulate high sowb problems

(50,949 posts)we know they're mediocre and they can't stand that we know it. Trump allows them to say, "See you effete liberals, I'm not mediocre. I'm better than all the women and all the black people out there. That means I'm superior. That freaky looking guy says so!"
They are ANGRY at us for knowing what they are, but they HATE themselves.
