Trump will try to lower debate expectations. Don't let him.

The campaign realizes they goofed by playing up this idea Biden is mentally incompetent and a gaffe machine. They lowered the debate expectations for Biden to the point that just not falling over will be seen as a win. Conversely, they've built this image that Trump is going to kill Biden in the debate and now they realize maybe they bit off a bit more than they could chew. So, they're going to start planting stories like saying he isn't prepping for the debate, that he's not focused on it or that he isn't taking it seriously.

They're hoping the media will bite and start questioning his performance too.

The Trump campaign put themselves in a no-win position with their Biden attacks. Not only has it failed to resonate in the polls, it's positioned Biden to beat expectations - as he did during his convention speech.
