I live in a suburb of Chicago. The items I ordered were shipped Aug 31 from Reno, NV.
The packages arrived in Illinois at the first Chicago area facility on Sept 4 and were transferred to another - a second - Chicago area facility on Sept 5th and then they were in transit to a third Chicago Area facility on Sept 8 and accepted at that third facility on Sept 9th. I hoping that maybe I'll received these items in the next day or so - on the 10th or 11th - but I'm not holding my breath.
All three of these Chicago area USPS facilities are within 15 miles of my house yet they've been shifted around between these 3 relatively nearby facilities for days now.
These are not big items being shipped - just 2 back issues of a magazine that I wanted to get my hands on. So it's not like they need any special handling.
It just seems like there's some funny stuff going on at the USPS in the Chicago area.
The last time I ordered something on E-Bay - the item I ordered sat in a facility within 2 miles from my house for 5 days before it went out to delivery.
So some enthusiastic journalist might want to have some items shipped to them from across the country and track the packages and see if they run into the same kinds of delayed funny stuff I've run into.
It might make for a good news story.

(15,805 posts)slowdowns are deliberately selected to target cities run by Democrats or they have a lot of non Trump voters.

(25,848 posts)While I live in a state run by Democrats, New Mexico, it's relatively unimportant. I can tell you that things I've ordered recently have arrived in very good time, every one of them.
Of course, it helps a lot that stupid people think New Mexico is not actually a state, so we get ignored for things like this.

(11,296 posts)or so has been pretty speedy. (-- sometimes even ahead of "projected"--)
Some areas seem to be having major problems -- others apparently not so much. Knock on wood.

(2,095 posts)My package went from southern California, to Nevada, to central Illinois, (and I thought, "Woo hoo! It's only one state away!" Wrong.) then back to California, the northern part this time, and then finally to me. Each step took at least a day longer than I thought it should, and I can't even begin to explain the second round of CA. Unless my daughter's tee shirts just wanted to see America. Travel is very broadening.

(31,384 posts)go from Greensboro to Raleigh (where I live) and then back to Greensboro and back to Raleigh before it went out for delivery. I guess the package missed Greensboro so much it wanted to go back and see it one more time before it traveled on to its new home.

(14,565 posts)Stalled 5+ days before doing anything. Currently the package has been in Freemont since shipped on September 5th. It says awaiting transfer to USPS, so obviously the delay is on the USPS end.
Two weeks ago I had a package require 6 days to travel 6 miles in the same general area. They are headed to Miami but it requires that long merely to get going.

(300 posts)While some delays are caused by eBay sellers not shipping for three days or more, I do find longer, inexplicable delays on the USPS end these days when I attempt to track something. Two or three days at a single postal facility seems all too common, and my state has a democratic governor...

Alliance Rx shipped my BP meds from Tempe, on Aug 27.
Went into the DHL/USPS transfer center in Melrose Park, on August 29.
As of YESTERDAY, the USPS had yet to take custody of the medicine I've already paid for!
Today is 13 days that my medicine has been sitting 50 miles from my house with nobody doing a thing about it.
I got apologies from Alliance, from DHL, from USPS, but I don't need apologies! I need the stupid medicine.
Oh, and get this: the third med (I'm on a 3 med, low dose cocktail for my BP), which was ordered & shipped 2 days later arrived last Friday.

(54,357 posts)Two identical large letters were sent the same day from New York City, one to my brother in Virginia, and one to me in Dallas (I was still there). My brother got his on July 31st. Mine arrived in Dallas August 14th, a day after I left to return to Germany.
On the other hand, I sent a letter to Dallas from Düsseldorf after I got back, and it arrived 8 days later. Go figure. Maybe because Texas is red, and Germany is not even in the same solar system.
