Riot Police Threatened Me in My Yard

Saturday night the police ... parked a riot truck in front of my home with a dozen militarized, rifle-armed men holding court on the street. They walked around with guns at the ready ...

I shout the 20 feet down to the street that they should leave, that we don't want them here, that we don't feel safe when they are around — they are unsafe, unpredictable, unaccountable ...

... They bandied their massive guns around while shouting that this was their street, they don't work for me, and that they would take note of our address to make sure and not respond if something bad happens ...

Then they hop on the riot truck and drive away ...

... While the police stand out in front of my home and threaten my family, I think about just how important the protests and the movement are ...

Officers who first confronted Michael Forest Reinoehl outside an apartment complex in Washington last week yelled no warnings or commands before firing and killing the Oregon man wanted on a murder warrant in the death of a right-wing demonstrator in Portland, according to a witness now represented by a lawyer ...

Dingess said he saw Reinoehl walk toward his car holding a cellphone in his hand when two unmarked law enforcement vehicles converged outside the complex in the 7600 block of Third Way Southeast last Thursday night. Officers began firing at Reinoehl, according to a statement issued by Dingess' lawyer, Luke Laughlin, on his behalf.

Reinoehl ducked for cover near his car, but it was blocked by police cars and he never got into it, according to Dingess.

“Officers shot multiple rapid-fire rounds at Reinoehl before issuing a brief ‘stop’ command, quickly followed by more rapid-fire shooting by additional officers,” according to the statement ...

WASHINGTON — A Department of Homeland Security official said in a whistleblower complaint released Wednesday that he was pressured by more senior officials to suppress facts in intelligence reports that President Trump might find objectionable, including information about Russian interference in the election and the rising threat posed by white supremacists.

The official, Brian Murphy, alleged that senior DHS officials also pressed him to alter reports so they would reflect administration policy goals and that he was demoted for refusing to go along with the changes and for filing confidential internal complaints about the conduct.

Murphy, a former FBI agent and Marine Corps veteran, was demoted in August from his post as principal deputy under secretary in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. He is seeking to be reinstated in a complaint filed with the DHS Office of Inspector General.

Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, released the complaint, which he said contained “grave and disturbing” allegations. He said Murphy has been asked to give a deposition to Congress as part of an investigation into intelligence collection by DHS related to its response to protests in Portland, Oregon, and elsewhere ...

Portland City Council approved a $975,000 settlement deal Wednesday with the family of Lane Martin, a man fatally shot by Portland police during a mental health crisis.

Martin, a 31-year-old art student at Portland State University (PSU), was killed by Gary Doran, an officer with the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), after a chase through East Portland on July 30, 2019.

The incident began when Martin brandished a knife at a security guard during an attempted car break-in, prompting a police response. PPB officers called to the scene followed Martin as he walked away from the the parking lot where the incident took place, and ordered Martin to drop a hatchet he was swinging. When Martin didn't follow officers' demands, two officers fired rubber bullets at Martin's legs. He dropped the hatchet and ran — only to be cornered by police outside an apartment complex at SE 120th and Ash. When Martin reached for his waistband, Doran fired at least 11 bullets at him. Martin died at the scene ...

PORTLAND — Police arrested 11 people in Portland as protests continued to take place after 100 days of demonstrations in the Oregon city against racism and police brutality.

Tuesday night, a group began gathering at the site of the Saturday Market and marched in the street to the area of Transit Police Department offices, the police said in a statement.

As the crowd arrived, some stood on the train rails, which interfered with trains getting through the area. Other members of the group stood in the street, blocking vehicular traffic, the police added.

The police said they ordered the demonstrators to disperse. Some adhered while others continued to march around in the streets and threw projectiles such as eggs and water bottles toward officers ...

... Ender says he attended a few demonstrations earlier in the summer, mostly as a curious neighbor, and left long before they became confrontational.

So when demonstrators marked their 100th day of mass protests at Ventura Park with a plan to march to the nearby precinct, Ender and his wife walked the few blocks to see the speeches ...

But police reported having fire bombs, mortars and rocks hurled at them. They responded with force: declaring the gathering a riot and using impact weapons, bull rushes and clouds of tear gas to control and disperse the crowd ...

The couple had no intention of engaging with the police, so they didn’t bring any gear to protect against the gas, but he realized the only way to escape was to walk east — directly into the growing clouds of gas ...

8. Trump supporters caravan south of Portland, attack counter-protesters
Thu Sep 10, 2020, 04:49 AM
Sep 2020

Hundreds of supporters of President Trump and right-wing activists gathered in Oregon City, Oregon, on Monday for a "Cruise Rally" south toward Salem, the state capital. The caravan, featuring Trump flags, QAnon banners, and Blue Lives Matter paraphernalia, broke up after several miles on Interstate 5, but a group of Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer members continued on to Salem to join about 100 Trump supporters on the steps of the state Capitol.

"At one point Monday afternoon, the right-wing crowd rushed a smaller group of Black Lives Matters counter-demonstrators, firing paint-gun pellets at them," The Associated Press reports. "Some in the right-wing group carried guns, baseball bats, sticks, and pipes," The Oregonian adds. "The Salem Police Department, supported by Oregon State Police, made multiple arrests after rally goers attacked some of the counter-protestors." Oregon Pubic Broadcasting's Sergio Olmos captured two of those attacks ...
