Foxconn halts production at plant after mass brawl

from BBC News:

Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology, a major supplier for Apple, has halted production at a plant in northern China after a fight broke out among workers.

Foxconn confirmed that a "personal dispute" escalated into an incident involving about 2,000 workers, injuring 40 of them.

Police later dealt with the situation near the facility in Taiyuan, which employs about 79,000 workers.

Foxconn has previously been accused of having poor conditions for its workers. ...................(more)

So much as just an argument that got way out of hand.

It apparently wasn't directed at the company at all

Even if you do believe every self serving lie from the Chinese media, just reading the article would tell you it was most likely a response to security guards severely beating a worker.

And again, if it is the result of a security guard beating a worker, then it STILL isn't as if there was a major walkout or that it is some sort of worker uprising against Foxconn.

Seems to me to be more akin to rival soccer fans going at it.

described, albeit he described them in glowing terms. Do you really think it was something as shallow as the outcome of a football game? In China where the people have been historically forced to be subservient and obedient to authority?

I sure don't. The workers had to have known they would be disciplined.

Read the fucking article linked in the OP which states that it was between groups from two different provinces.

It constantly amazes me on this website that if someone doesn't wholeheartedly agree with a particular perspective, then it is assumed their point of view comes from completely the other side.

I am no expert on Chinese culture, not by a long shot, nor am I a fan of Foxconn and what I have read about them. But my first response in this sub-thread was to the statement that the workers were "rising up". After reading the article, and as I said above, this seems to me to be less about workers rising up against Foxconn and
More about some other rivalry.

OK? Or am I not allowed to voice an opinion based on my reading of an article?
