I imagine that most states allow you to request them much earlier than that -- my state is pretty restrictive, yet I completed and mailed in my request weeks ago -- which means that you should be requesting them as early as possible. Maybe in a "normal" administration, ~15 days before the election is sufficient, but I wouldn't trust that quick of a turn in with this administration, not with all the postal problems it is causing.

Request your mail-in/absentee ballot ASAP and once you get your ballot, complete it and return it ASAP.

You can download the Ballot Application Form, fill it out and mail back to the county election board which occupies space in our county courthouse. Very simple if you own a computer! Voters in my household did that several weeks ago and I received a personal call back from the board informing me that because we have a street address and a POB, it is their policy to mail ballots to the POB which they will be doing beginning on 9/24. We'll be checking our POB for it and returning it ASAP! Very few states are mailing out actual ballots.

Request for ballots came out 3 weeks ago. I actually got 3 forms over 2 weeks. With concerns, I went to Dem Headquarters to verify authenticity and was assured I am good. I hand delivered request and will do same for ballots. We do have a whiteness requirement and State Dems are pursuing legal action at republicans looking to dismiss with the simplest mistake on those signatures. Why the hell is it allowed to be so screwed up. I got draft notice at 18 for Nam with no right to vote. We fixed that, now here we are. Fuck GOP with a Negan style baseball bats.

because of the people that are (and have been) in control of your statehouse.

And to be fair (even if it isn't currently in vogue) up until a certain time -- even Republicans thought that voting was a good thing -- and people should be encouraged to do it.

Think on this here a second. DO understand the sentiment -- but put them dogs back up for just a minute. We'll get 'em in the end, son. But it's best if you leave 'em thinking it was their own fault. Even lowin' as how nothin' is ever their fault -- 'cordin to them. But when they drive their own truck axle deep into the newly watered bean field ... By damn -- the neighbors is gonna' laugh at 'em. And that's so much more satisfying ...

So hold off on those hounds and the camo gear for just a bit longer ...
And we'll get the world to laughing at 'em! N' we'll pass 'em on the street an just SMILE ....
It'll be sweet.

I own no camo. I look forward to the laughter. Have no desire to return to the battlefield. Taking a life in any form, never leaves your soul, I will defend myself but ain’t goin huntin. When I see them now, I just walk by laughing. The best way to deal with a WalMart trip, is to smile really big, and giggle at the genetic superiority that abounds. People just think I am really happy. And laughing always makes you feel better. Thanks for the great response.

the good: the state Democratic party sends vote by mail applications in January to every over 65 or disabled voter who can be identified as a Democrat. This allows plenty of time to get them in early enough to receive the primary ballot.

Once your application is received, you will get the ballot for every remaining election for the entire year.

This year the party resent applications to the folks who did not respond to the first one.

The not so good: Each county has only ONE drop box - the Elections Office. If you want to avoid using USPS you have to hand carry your ballot to the Elections Office, and show ID. You can only take your own ballot since ID has to be shown.

If you forgot to mail your ballot in but do not want to go all the way to the Elections Office, you can take it with you to the polls but you can't just drop it off; you vote in person like everyone else except you surrender the absentee ballot when you check in at the voting desk.

The very nice change: in the past we could only drop the ballots off on Election Day; this year we can drop them off through the entire early voting period.

We get our ballots in plenty of time to vote. I plan to at a minimum hand carry mine to the USPS branch which serves us but I may take mine to the Central Sorting Center. I believe the Elections Office picks up their mail there.

• No drop box anywhere in the county by law (gray area about having one at the Elections Office – but our county is not going to add one). Commissioners Court is 3 Rs to 2 Ds).
• Only place to turn a completed mail-in ballot is the Elections Office in our county seat. (The most distant large city is about an hour away from that location..)
• It can only be hand-delivered inside.
• During office hours.
• You can only deliver your own ballot, can't even deliver the ballot of your immediate family.
• Must show acceptable voter ID if you hand deliver it.
• New law, no straight party voting. Long ballot. State is so large many state-wide candidates are not able to use media to get known, too expensive, too many media markets.
• New law, ended drawing for ballot order. Now Governor's party goes first. You know it, that's the Rs.

that has severely hobbled their operating capacity by millions of pieces of mail per hour.

So it’s not an FU. It’s more misleading than anything else IMHO.

Dejoy would’ve more than likely had to approved a widespread mailing like that.

Please consider volunteering at your polls. Training is easy and takes half a day.
We NEED people to help. There were only 3 Democrats at the last election poll and we all had to work a 12 hour shift as there was nobody to replace us!
