...No, this was Donald Trump in an act of stupidity perhaps unparalleled in Washington media history. He tried to play Bob Fucking Woodward. Nothing about these interviews can be unspun or unrung. No matter how gamely his enablers and the comms shop grunt out excuses, his words are there, on tape. This wasnt a president trying to calmly lead the nation through crisis; this was Trump simply not giving a fuck.
Even among his supporters, theres a sense that these interviews werent exactly the smartest move. Like crabs in a bucket mutilating each other, Wednesday nights episode of Tucker Carlsons Fishsticks-n-Fascism Power Hour laid bare just how bad they know this was. Carlson lit up Lindsey Graham, Trumps No. 1 shinebox boy, taking the parasitic senator to the woodshed for encouraging Trump to sit down with Woodward and even attending one of the conversations himself.
This is the part of the show where we enjoy a delicious glass of 2020 schadenfreude. It has a light crisp nose and a beautiful snappy finish.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,656 posts)to interview him because that's what Woodward does - he writes books about presidents. Getting interviewed by Woodward is a president thing and Trump wanted it. Woodward had written a previous book in 2018, Fear, but Trump refused to be interviewed for that one and it wasn't positive at all. So Trump decided he was going to charm Woodward into writing a more flattering book by agreeing to interviews and even initiating them by calling Woodward from the residence late at night. He's so stupid and narcissistic that he thought he could bullshit Bob Fucking Woodward, the reporter who brought down Nixon.

The facts you shared makes it all the more surreal! What a fool!

(65,269 posts)Trump, so Trump didn't know an interview had been requested. He wanted to be interviewed for "Rage," against his advisors' advice--probably, as you say, because he was sure he could BS Woodward.
Also, though, he can't help running his mouth, and he's always eager for a captive audience.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,656 posts)which I find especially hilarious. Now Tucker Carlson is blaming Graham for the debacle.

Pissolini is despicable, but without his cult, he could do only a tiny fraction of the damage they've enabled him to do.

(11,982 posts)...he knew of Woodward, but not in any depth. It is not inconceivable to me that he did not know that he was one of the reporters who took down Nixon.
Anywaym here's what Trump said in yesterday's press conference:
LiberalLovinLug
(14,168 posts)or was a best seller. Trump is only doing what he has always done, mix with the successful the powerful, those considered the best at what they do, thinking it elevates his own star. Some of that greatness will rub off on him too. That and he can brag how he's a good friend of ......... and gain even more admiration and envy.
He doesn't think through anything more than that.

(53,758 posts)who actually knows exactly what he's doing, then they chastise the rest of us for calling him an idiot and buffoon There was a thread just yesterday on this.
I responded as follows: He's an idiot at the same time he's an evil buffoon. He just thinks he's the smartest guy in the room (Dunning Kruger effect in effect), which is why he keeps getting caught in his evilness. He knows what he's doing all right, he just can't cheat and bully people anymore (except for his appointed sycophants) and sue them and outlast them in court with his father's big bucks, which he eventually blew.
And do not tell me a corrupt, lying president who gives 18 interviews to the one and only Bob Woodward in which he spills his guts and exposes his bungling stupidity, and evilness, in how he handled covid is not an idiot.
And do we have to get into the six bankruptcies running casinos? CASINOS? Please.

(115,656 posts)His narcissism prevents him from making rational decisions; he's focused only on the immediate gratification of his ego. He's so convinced of his own charm and persuasiveness that he figured he could bullshit Woodward into writing a flattering book about him - a huge mistake, like so many others he'd made.

Make a note to buy popcorn.

It must be extremely mentally fatiguing to carry out such self-deception all the time, like being on the run in a permanent East-West spy film. Jason Bourne for life.
