COVID-19 is exponentially worse but also much longer in timeline, though it is crushing when you try to read stories of the lost in either case. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, and so so many more...

The impact is also lessened by the lack of TV coverage...notice how the stories from inside the hospitals and from caregivers all just sort of disappeared back in July? THAT was no accident...it was a programming decision. The crisis in geriatric care facilities is no less of a struggle today, but the attention given to it and the level of detail covered in the media is so much less.

9/11 happened in an instant and the images were seared into our minds in that same instant.
COVID-19 has been happening in somewhat closer to slow motion replays, and like the injuries to Joe Theismann in the 1980's or to Alex Smith in 2017, those replays are being sanitized and scrubbed from the air, lest people being asking that most important question - WHY? or worst yet for the powers-that-be, its follow-up WHO DOES THIS BENEFIT?

The medical industry is not really interested in attacking COVID-19 as a disease to be 'cured' or 'eradicated'; the talk is of potential vaccines and therapeutics - which is really code for "how can we make this a chronic condition and profit on the sale of treatments?"

In a sane country, our best and brightest would be employed in prestigious jobs working for the NIH, CDC and FDA - rewarded for being the most skilled, the best educated and the most dedicated to healthcare and THEY would be calling ALL the shots, running ALL the tests and relaying ALL the information to the public as it became available. In THIS shit hole country, the ones with the expertise and the brains and the ability to work a problem of this scale are either A) NOT working in the field, even though their skills and abilities would be GREAT in the field (not enough cold hard cash to retain the best) or B) laboring away in politicized branches of a broken government, subject to the whims and pouting of an infant in charge.

When you mix this all together, what we are left with is a damaging mirror to have to peer into - and what it shows us back is that we have become a profoundly sick nation in the interim from 9/11/2001 to 9/11/2020. We are broken - mentally, physically, emotionally and ethically.

While 9/11 was a shock to a somnolent nation - a clarion alarm clock sounding off in our ear; COVID-19 has become a politicized third-rail at the behest of a lying, murdering scumbag who should be removed from office months ago.

How can a nation be so good at caring about 3,000 lives that ended 19 years ago and so bad at caring about 200,000 lives that ended this year? One was caused by the attack of an enemy who swore he’d kill us; the other was caused by the lie of a leader who swore he’d protect us.

As I saw all the gushing Facebook posts from my conservative acquaintances about patriotism and "never forget" and on and on. They don't give a rat's a$$ about the 190,000+ deaths from Covid.

I just took a vacation from Facebook. I learned long ago to avoid arguing with stumps and things dumber than they are.
