President Carters Birthday Wall »
My husband has been blessed with a long life and an amazing amount of energy, which he has dedicated over the last four decades to the work of The Carter Center helping vulnerable and impoverished people.
Over the years, Ive seen that theyve been able to improve their own lives in dramatic ways, all because of the highly effective tools and knowledge that supporters like you have helped us deliver.
They are freeing themselves from the pain and economic catastrophe brought by disease, learning how to protect their civil rights, advancing democracy all over the world, and so much more.
Making this world a better place has been Jimmys vision for as long as I can remember. Your support of his lifes work will be the best present he can receive. Thank you so much for sharing your special message now.
Sincerely,
Rosalynn Carter
Co-Founder of The Carter Center"

(2,028 posts)I heard somebody a few years characterize Jimmy Carter as "the most decent man ever to hold the office of the presidency". I think I agree. Contrast him with that con man who's in the White House now. God help us if we can't get rid of that loathsome orange thing on Nov. 3.

(63,221 posts)Like night and day. I added my wishes and it almost made me cry to think of what a good man he is, especially compared to this evil hell-beast who is now occupying the office.

Miss Bayard, thanks for posting this recognition of this great man's b.d.

(54,448 posts)That would be Hubert Humphrey.
But Carter was the only incumbent to be denied a second term by Republican sleaze. Without Reagan's deal with the Ayatollahs of Iran, he would have been re-elected. The economy's woes would not have overcome the shining success of the Camp David miracle, and a second term would have allowed him to focus on an economic upswing and some sensible foreign policy. Mondale would have been a shoo-in in 1984, and Republicans would had to declare an armed insurrection to get the White House back again.
