(51,308 posts)Born and raised, though I spent 25 years living in the disaster area otherwise known as Florida lol.
I rode out numerous hurricanes, and Id take the worst of those over the firestorms that seem to be a regular thing in CA.

(19,459 posts)We took a 14-day road trip through Virginia, Tennessee, and both of the Carolinas back in 2012.
North Carolina was among our favorite parts of the trip. Beautiful state.

(36,416 posts)I understood that was a new video of a Fire Tornado. The Vacaville fire is all but out; it was ragging back around Aug 22.
Reports of fire tornados around Vacaville turned out to be nothing but fire devils

What you're posting looks to be a genuine Fire Tornado, capable of tearing out trees and tossing vehicles
Scientists were gobsmacked when they saw what they did in the 2017 Tubbs fire in Santa Rosa, California (riddle me this: why did that round black thing not burn?):

(19,459 posts)Drove out Pleasants Valley Road to 128, hung a left and drove up along Putah Creek. The fires really devastated that area. Lots of burned structures along Pleasants Valley Road (including Pleasants Valley Iris Farm, which was a favorite destination for us).

(36,416 posts)Someone I know lost his distillery, but his house survived, and a beekeeper I've known for decades lost EVERYTHING. An eighty year old, a cousin of a close friend lost his house, but he showed some real resiliency by bouncing right back and ordered a modular house thingy.
Eight close friends had to evacuate, but their homes were spared. One friend's yard was ablaze with firemen working to save his house when they booted him out. Another friend, who lived on Peasants Valley Road, closer to Lake Solano, has had to evacuate, like, three times in four years, then she moved over to Olive School road, and damn, she had to from evacuate from there. too!
This damn smoke and ash is wearing me down
On a lighter side note: Do you know the connection between Putah Creek and John Fogerty's Green River?
