Across the nation, all eyes are on Texas this year. With Joe Biden leading Trump in many polls, theres one question on everyones mind: will this be the year Texas turns blue?
While delivering Texas for Biden is an exciting possibility, we have an even better chance at flipping Texas further down the ballot in the Texas House of Representatives. The Texas House is only nine seats away from Democratic control, and flipping it blue will change the political landscape of Texas for years to come.
If the Texas House flips in November, the implications for the next decade of Texas politics are huge. The 2021 legislative session is more important than ever, because next year, representatives will decide how to redraw Texas legislative districts. If Republicans have control of the Texas House and the Texas Senate, theyll be free to gerrymander Texas districts to make it harder to turn our state blue in the next few years. But if Democrats take the Texas House, we can ensure a fair and equitable redistricting process.
A Democratic-led Texas House can mean better legislation, better policies, and better plans to take us out of the COVID crisis next year. Well have a higher chance of addressing public school funding, expanding Medicaid for Texas families, holding police accountable, and using the Rainy Day fund for Texans, not corporations or wealthy donors.
This House election isnt about who controls Texas for the next two years. Its about who shapes the future of Texas. Lets make sure we have a say.

(111,971 posts)While I will vote for Janet Dudding in district 14, I would be completely surprised if she or Eric Holguin pulled off upsets since both of them are in districts that favor GOP candidates.

(58,511 posts)I was on a zoom fundraiser with Beto Cattanach (108) and Montoya (121). Cattanach said internals have her ahead of the incumbent and Biden up by 20% (this is the heart of Downtown Dallas). Montoya (San Antonio) said she has a small lead.

(111,971 posts)There has been enough exhaustion with the GOP, their lies, and their policies (which is to lie without impunity). It is going to take a rout by Biden with long coattails to get those additional seats.
If the Democrats get seven or eight seats there might be a Republican cross over if they a) see the process as too partisan or b) they can see knocking off a potential rival within their own party since a lot of them might want pursue a career as a state senator. The latter is more likely. There will also be a new Speaker of the House after the election since Dennis Bonnen screwed up and said naughty things about other Republicans on tape.
