Okay. Hubby and I are going to be donating this upcoming Friday to Biden/ Harris. Had to get caught up on bills. Now we are talking about getting our first political sign.
I am nervous for these reasons.
1--Hubby works two different shifts leaving me alone in the house at least 8 hours and as we live in Washington County which for the most part would be considered a Red County.
2-- 2 houses away from us is a Trump supporter with a flag.
Maybe I am paranoid but I do worry about someone harassing me when Hubby isn't around or targeting the house.
As to why hubby and I never had a political sign before we never felt the need to vocalize/display our views. We do however feel if Biden is not elected this time we will see the end of our democracy. We do talk to our republican family members about the issue.
EDIT: Thank you all for your thoughts. We will be getting a sign on Friday!

(12,827 posts)I did not put a bumper sticker on this time because we have a new car after selling our 20 year old car a year ago. I don't want to come out of a store and find it keyed. Our neighborhood is not quite as bad as some in our small city. No issues yet, during 2016 we had signs stolen and torn up and left in our yard, but that stopped when I put a sign out that said I would just get another one and donate to the party every time.
I do worry more this time, the Trumpers are pretty scary, but they win when we let them scare us, just like bullies, we have to fight back.

(26,257 posts)their trump sign. Keep an eye on the sign, perhaps overnight bring it inside, put back outside during the day. And besides, your neighbors may not be the ones to worry about, it could be anyone driving by, that doesn't like your Biden sign.
And a DU poster had problems w/ their Biden signs getting stolen, and then put out a note along w/ the replaced Biden sign, that every time the thieves stole their Biden sign, they would simply make another donation to the Biden campaign, and get another sign. Good luck!

(32,988 posts)If it is stolen, if you are harassed or your property is vandalized, call the sheriff. Keep calling.
Write an LTTE. Tell the readers that if anyone steals your sign, you will get another one. Let them know that that just puts more money in Biden's coffers.
I live in a red area of a blue state. I live in the country, but on a main road. My neighbors to the south are trumpers. I have heard them outside doing target practice. I practice, too.
My yard is full of signs already. There will be more signs in my yard in the coming weeks. I am not going to let these motherfuckers intimidate me. Neither should you.

(8,090 posts)Years ago an Obama sign was set on fire in someone's yard and I'm hoping there won't be any stupidity/crime this go 'round.

(30,055 posts)Galloway for Governor,Simmons for Congress,Faleti for SoS, a few local Dems signs and a Hate Has No Home Hwre sign along with a BLM.
I live in Missouri in a county that went to Trump by almost 70%.
I also have a We Believe bumper sticker and one advertising my union.
And yes, sign theft has been an issue.

(2,560 posts)I live in Columbia (Boone County) and visited Boone County Democratic headquarters Friday and made a donation and got the signs. I asked for a Lindsey Simmons sign too, but they didn't have any.
I don't have any worries about sign theft or harassment or vandalism here, because this is a fairly progressive area, but if I lived in an area where that might be a problem, I would employ the solution I have seen posted here several times: Just put out another sign saying that you'll replace the sign and make another donation to Democrats every time the sign disappears.

(9,205 posts)this is a RED neighborhood, but we put out one sign. It's close to the house to avoid theft. A few walkers came by, and said "good sign".
Now it's been a couple weeks. There are 5 or 6 other houses with Biden signs. The trumpets still over do it with flags and multiple signs, but it's getting half-and-half! Now there is a contest.
We have all been walking during the COVID, so we see each other. I know a lot of people are afraid to put out a Biden/Harris sign, but you never know once someone starts it.

(1,076 posts)Trumpers seem to believe that they are the only patriots. We need to show them that is NOT the case. We have a Biden/Harris sign in our yard along with a US Flag and a Biden/Harris banner that says "Biden/Harris Unity not Division" on our back wall which faces a major street. The sign in our yard has another one which says "Veterans for Biden/Harris". I also noticed that the Trump sign which was along our daily walk in 2016 is not there this year. Maybe a hopeful sign?!

(4,794 posts)White House. When our Biden signs arrive I will bring out the flag and put the signs next to it. We live in Trumplanda and our signs have always been damaged or stolen. We will have to take them in at night. Surprisingly our Hate is not welcome here sign has not been stolen.

(970 posts)I live in a very red state, and we just put up a Biden/Harris sign about two weeks ago. My neighbor across the street, a retired teacher, also has put up her Biden sign. But rather than put our signs close to the road and sidewalk in front of our houses, we discussed it together and decided to place our signs closer to our front porches, in the grass. We are hoping this will discourage anyone who may want to steal a sign.
I have seen more and more Trump signs in our neighbors yards lately. I think neither my neighbor nor I would be surprised to wake up one morning and discover that a sign was missing....or had been defaced in some way.
I do understand your concerns. I really do. I think you should do whatever gives you the greatest sense of peace. I wish I had better advice to offer. Maybe you could place your sign close to your house and hope that deters any would-be miscreants.
I wish you well. I will check back to see what others suggest and to see what you decide to do.
