We mock Bloomberg for all the money he spent but he spent himself into viability.

Remember that. Bloomberg might be the biggest indication that flooding markets with campaign ads actually CAN prove effective. He spent a shit-ton of money on ads and elevated himself into viability in the primary season despite having no real campaign structure before announcing well into the primary season.

I know, I know, he lost - and badly.

But he also nearly won around the same amount of support nationally as Elizabeth Warren (I don't want to compare him to Pete or Amy, as they dropped out). He literally spent himself into a third-place or better showing in:

Alabama
Arkansas
Colorado
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Texas

And nearly bested Warren in California.

I say this because Biden is dominating the ad game on television. I see five Biden ads every night on cable (I watch TV only for a couple hours at night) and I know it's more frequent in swing states. I haven't seen a Trump ad since July.

Think about how impactful those ads were for Bloomberg. We laugh at all the money spent but the fact he spent his way into that level of viability, after starting from nothing only a couple months before the first votes, I think is important.

In a pandemic limited world, these ads might be the best way to reach voters.

Remember, this is before the Lincoln Project. He and his firm Hawkfish were the first "We go low so you don't have to" guy. Remember his fat-shaming ad, "Running a golf course is the only job I'd hire him for..."?

For better or worse, his ads were the first ones to hit Trump below the belt. And some of his tweets are classics, especially the "We know a lot of the same people and behind your back they laugh at you and call you a carnival-barking clown..." He really pissed of Trump.
