If you are not in the vulnerable demographics, you should mask up and vote early in person. Trump has badly sabotaged the post office with his postmaster general Louis DeJoy. Mail sorting machines have been scrapped, mailboxes have been locked and/or removed, and overtime has been cut for postal workers.
With many states unable to count many mail in ballots in time during the primaries, we CANNOT afford to risk our ballots being late. Just look at this piece from CNN:
[link:https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/14/opinions/election-2020-vote-by-mail-absentee-pildes/index.html?fbclid=IwAR2YPsUfd2TIZjp6JGMefmSFhIKt7Gq5ftICPQaga17P9aoFGF0gvxkVk5g|
I will keep stressing this until November 3rd. We cant afford to leave anything to chance.

(25,938 posts)Early voting begins in October in my state. I will get in line to cast my vote while circumventing any monkey bidness rump & co. have cooked up involving the USPS.

(34,857 posts)I urge those who can to also vote by mail so that those who cannot will have an easier time voting in person. The last thing we want is to have limited polling locations in urban areas, which are predominantly Democratic, and massive wait times, which have absolutely proven to discourage voters.
In some primary states, those who opted to vote in-person had to wait up to five-plus hours to cast their ballot. If we count on in-person voting in a pandemic, we likely lose.
Don't leave it up to chance. Request your mail-in ballot right now if you can, send it the second you can and track the ballot to make sure it's counted.
It's the smart thing to do and why Biden's campaign is pushing that method because they know the GOP is going to do everything they can to limit in-person voting in urban areas.

(32,626 posts)so hard to prevent people from voting by mail. It would be interesting to know what the odds are, by state, of getting your ballot counted either by mail or in person, or even being able to cast a vote in person. Long lines, the days of covid. For many, probably a crap-shoot either way. So, I say just vote early. Any way you want.

(25,316 posts)I think most states do not require masks while voting. (Disenfranchisement issues)
However, I don't think most voters know this.
My friend actually lost her mask on her way to vote.
I was at the polls on July 14th. Everyone voting wore masks because the library requires it. However, they did not know that voters were exempt.

(90,765 posts)Could just be for the line but that was not stipulated. Might be different inside. We'll see.
Voted by mail (absentee ballot/military) for years and this year will be my first in-person voting in a long, long time.
I'm excited. Course, we are probably the only two Democrats in this tiny village of 802 people.
Got the local and national ACLU in my contacts on my phone. Just in case.

(90,765 posts)The OP says Mask up and Vote early. I was responding to that. Never once suggesting those without one won't get to vote.
But we did get a postcard last week reminding people to have a mask with them - postcard from the office of the registrar. Probably for the line, as I've stated in another post.

(44,973 posts)Cloth masks, like we have been repeatedly told, are to protect other people from you. So you want a quality PPE mask for voting, if there are going be un-masked people there.

(6,902 posts)even if we are not in one. If you can vote by mail you should do so. Don't let Trump panic you. That's what he wants.

(473 posts)Lots of ballots will not be delivered in time, including the battle ground states.

(6,902 posts)in past years? With covid as an excuse for not having sufficient poll workers, it will be worse this year.
Don't wait to vote, don't procrastinate and please don't encourage others to do so.

(32,639 posts)I think they want Chump gone as much as we do - maybe even more so. They are going to see to it that the ballots get delivered on time because their livelihoods depend on it.
Maybe DeJoy is a Chump buttsniffer, but it doesn't matter because he'll be gone soon. They don't have to obey him and they know it. This nightmare is almost over. The US Postal Service is going to come through for us, because they know the stakes. The postal workers will save the day.
Full disclosure: I live in a blue county and a blue city (Pittsburgh, PA). I recognize that other areas aren't as "woke" as our guys are. If you don't trust the postal workers in your area, you should plan to hand-deliver your "mail-in" ballot to the county election board drop-off.

(5,275 posts)In Ohio early voting starts on 10/6 I will be voting on that date. Time to help Joe and Kamala win by a massive margin. Of course even if that happens dumb Dictator Donnie will likely have to be escorted/dragged out of the White House.....and hopefully quickly charged with tax fraud and his other crimes.

(1,297 posts)all early in person voting in my county is done via touch screen machines. In person on Election Day I have the option of a paper ballot. Obviously a mail in ballot will also be paper and I have the option of using a drop box to return the ballot so my only big concern is whether the republicans try to pull some shenanigans with signature challenging......if I vote in person on Election Day that cant happen.
