John Durham, investigator, has been enlisted by AG Barr in 2019 to look into origins of the government investigating Russian interference in our elections and the link to Trump. Trump all along has said it was illegal.
Washington Post investigative reporter, speaking on NPR today, said several big names will be brought up to the public by AG Barr.
The Washington Post article will be released in a couple days, it is currently with the editors.
(This is my paraphrase of what I just heard on the radio) I don't know exactly what Barr is going to do.
EDIT UPDATE: There are several articles from conservative media sources talking about John Durham and his investigative team working on Spygate crap.

(7,362 posts)I think it is about blaming Dems for investigating Trump/Russia connection. I will see if I can clear that up.
I edited my original wording for clarity. I hope it is better now.

(3,635 posts)to investigate Trump/Russia connection and this was bipartisan. The recently released Senate report was bipartisan. Comey, Mueller, Rosenstein, Strzok are all Republicans. A jury did convict Roger Stone.
If anything the FBI/Comey screwed Hillary by not saying they were investigating Trump, while being public about her email investigation.

(64,852 posts)I thought that's what grand juries are for.
In questioning, you're sure that the will find a majority to vote to indict when there is public evidence the investigation was started for cause?
Barr can't indict. He can only ask a grand jury to indict.
They don't get to pre-stack the jury, and Barr is not a terribly persuasive speaker.
I think you overestimate his powers.

It's not like there there is a geopolitical counterweight like there was back in the 1960's that would prevent Trump from brutalizing his opponents. Trump isn't interested in showing the world that we are the "good guys".
The point is, I don't know if the playbook from the 1960's is still applicable.

(3,635 posts)Trump hopes that Durham will discredit the origins of the FBI's Russia investigation into his 2016 campaign, and allies, including Barr, have questioned whether the Russians showed a preference for Trump in 2016. But the US intelligence assessment released last month threatens to undercut those goals, making clear the Russians are doubling down on their pro-Trump efforts to undermine Democratic nominee Joe Biden's 2020 campaign.
...
More likely, some officials believe, is a harshly critical report on the conduct and decisions of top intelligence and law enforcement officials who oversaw the investigation of the Trump campaign's ties to Russians.
...
Shapiro added that the interview occurred at CIA headquarters and Durham had told Brennan he is a witness and isn't a target of the probe, meaning they are not pursuing charges alleging wrongdoing by Brennan. Brennan told Durham that Barr has politicized Durham's investigation, and the former CIA chief asked why the agency's intelligence work on Russian election interference in 2016 is being scrutinized when it's been validated by the Senate Intelligence Committee and former special counsel Robert Mueller.
Barr/Trump are grasping at straws as 'spygate' only resonates with their crazed base, not anyone in the reality based community.
