I just saw that the little town of Lee Vining - next to Mono Lake in CA - has an AQI of 1289.![]()

1. wow it's been around 300 here for a few days and i'm suffering
can't even imagine what that "air" is like
probably straight-up deadly for anything more than a few seconds of exposure |

3. It's just awful. Finally replaced the filter in our HVAC system yesterday.
Much better now.

2. We were just in Mammoth, which is about 30 miles away.
Same AQI index two days ago. It was brutal. You could hardly see across the street.

4. AIQ, EPA app
The chart I'm looking at has AQI measured at 194 for Lee Vining. I've been closely following other areas around the west and particularly my own. Today is the first day Vancouver, Washington is under 400. I think you're looking at air-quality.com which has it at 1292 so I don't understand the discrepancies. |

5. Thanks for the Vancouver info! My aunt and her husband live there.
I need to look up that app.

11. 349 at 4 pm
Considering yesterday was so far off the charts, any decrease is welcome relief. I hope your aunt and her husband are staying indoors. I have asthma so it's a huge problem for me.
Tell them I said good luck. Hopefully, we'll get some much needed rain soon. 🤞🤞🤞🤞 |

12. Wow. That's scary.
They are not going outside. Her husband has arterial fibrillation so he's definitely staying inside. They had just changed the filter on their furnace/hepa.
Luckily their house is also energy efficient based on the codes they had to follow to build their place. Windows are hyper efficient. Please take care of yourself. She mentioned rain the other day and was hopeful so my fingers are crossed for you as well. |

14. Thank you, 230 AQI reading this morning. Slow progress...
Since we were double that just 4 days ago it's a good number... Wow, how we learn to take even very small progress as almost life changing.
One day at a time. |

15. That's better. I can't imagine what it's like there.
Here in Los Angeles it was around 150 and I was struggling so to be anywhere near 200 or more is definitely spooky.

6. purpleair.com shows it currently at 588.
https://www.purpleair.com/map?opt=1/mAQI/a10/cC0&select=31323#8.96/37.8613/-119.2523
The 1289 reading must have been an error. 588 is horrible, but 1289 would be way off the charts! |

7. That doesn't sound right.
The lack of a link makes me think it probably is not right.

9. Everybody check out this site.... numbers change constantly, along with the "top 10"...
https://www.iqair.com/usa/california/lee-vining
Look at the "Historic Air Quality" Lee Vining's AQI peaked at 1733 (!!!!) at noon Monday... 1335 today at 8 am. Breeze is swirling around. |

10. I am in Medford Oregon
It's been slowly getting better, had 2 days of 600, then 500, yesterday 350-400, today 250-330 depending what site you go on.
I can tell its better because sun is almost getting through but still smoky. |
