TX-23: Joe Biden backs Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones in Texas congressional race

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Tuesday weighed in on a competitive El Paso-area congressional race, voicing his support for Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones.

Jones is seeking election to Congressional District 23, currently held by U.S. Rep. Will Hurd, R-Helotes. Hurd is not seeking reelection.

"Gina served our country as an intelligence officer in the Air Force, deployed to Iraq, and spent nearly 15 years protecting our economic and national security," Biden said in a statement tweeted by Jones. "A first-generation American raised by a single mom in San Antonio, I know she'll fight every day to protect the opportunities that allowed her to grow up healthy, get a quality education, and serve our country."

On Twitter, Jones said she's honored by the former vice president's endorsement.

I didn’t even think about that....I guess some voters would vote for POTUS and leave their ballots unfinished. Thanks for the reminder.
