(29,199 posts)but worse is that we have to get to 70% infection ( or higher because of how infectious this virus is ).
200K dead out of maybe 30M actually infected (not the tested rate).
320M Americans x .7 = 224M
CFR is maybe .6 %
So 1.5M Americans minimum would have to die to get to "herd mentality"

(21,299 posts)I hit my local red neck web site hard with this. I used Trump's herd mentality to explain Trump's virus plan to mean we all just need to ignore the virus. We need the mentality to die for Wall Street, to die for the stock market.
"Herd Mentality" needs to "get thee to the front page."
I also said, surely Trump isn't losing it mentally and really meant herd immunity where 2.1 million Americans need to die and then no guarantee how long immunity lasts?
I finished it off with, Bring On The Debates. Trump bombed in his town hall when asked tough questions. I laughed that Fox is calling it an ambush.
I am having some fun today. I am going to use herd mentality for a long time. Drink the Kool Ade trumpers and get herd mentality.

(2,522 posts)Yes, herd immunity would make more sense in context. However, saying "herd mentality" was Trump unintentionally revealling what he wanted from the American people: subservience to his will.

(2,412 posts)Amen, it was a brilliant slip and would be a great centerpiece for a Lincoln Project Ad. By the way, I feel sorry for his followers. People are not always able to figure it out for themselves and it is a very human yearning for a leader who will make things alright for them. They have been shafted and bamboozled. All they wanted was a more level playing field. Workers in this country have been screwed over royally and he tapped into that. Joe is showing them a better way. I would like to see an end to the hate for these folks.
