7. We had neighbors who freaked out over sidewalk chalk.

Our children and their friends had drawn an entire city in the street.

And yeah, most of the kids were not white, while the angry neighbors were almost a caricature of suburban whiteness who were certain our children would soon be spray-painting their walls with graffiti.

It was a relief when these neighbors moved away.

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA) – A bizarre confrontation was caught on camera over the weekend after a neighbor’s demands to have his kids clean up their chalk drawings from the back alleys led to a racist rant.

Alex Wong says that cell phone video he shot shows the woman in his garage, yelling profanities and hitting his car.

After asking her to leave, she walked back toward him, continuing to hit the vehicle. That’s when the rant turned racist.

Mr. Wong did not pepper spray her, but he did pick up a knife after she pushed him.

I think he should; yes it looks like "Gertrude" has dementia, but that does not excuse her actions.

What planet does she live on? What year does she think it is? Is she trying to assert that the homeowner is occupying the property illegally, because he has "slanted eyes"? She insists on speaking to a white person! And then tries to start a fight...... Any young man, of any color, would get no sympathy from the cops for acting like this, and getting the crap beaten out of them, or even shot.

This woman is dead ringer for my late mother-in-law. But unlike my MIL, this woman's behavior is despicable and outrageous.

That being said, this is what happens when you overload on Fox News and right-wing radio. I watched my own mother slide into paranoia and resentment after a full diet of Rush Limbaugh. This from a woman raised in a Democratic/union household devolving into a ditto-head in just a few short years. Age played its part as did diminishing health and too many Manhattans every evening. But good God!

Dementia can really enhance any racist feelings. It’s very common.

I have no idea if she has dementia but I would guess that is her problem.
