It formed the core of his racist base, and it showed that the media could let him lie and not hold him to account, therefore opening the floodgates to more than ten thousand other lies.

(97,406 posts)Trump, the person, is a lie.
All lies flow from that original lie.
Trump has to watch others to get a feel for an emotion that he then fakes as best he can. He fails miserably but he still has to take a cue from a person who can experience actual emotions.
He mimics facial expressions. He has his own - which are always those smarmy mouth contortions whether in anger or smirk-smiling. But when he tries to look like a human who experiences real emotions, he mimics other people. Like when he said he put on his Churchill look.
Trump is a damaged human. His true self is a snarling mess of fear and insecurity. A fear that lashes out in anger of being found out. Every attempt to appear normal, to appear not damaged, that he projects is a lie.
