I assume polling places are going to ask people to wear masks. The devout anti-maskers tend to be Trump supporters.
I cannot wait to see Trump seize on this one, claiming his voters are being denied their right to vote. You know it's going to be a chaotic trainwreck and the Right is going to run with it all day long to confuse and obfuscate the results.
Just another thing we'll need to be ready for. They're going to throw all things at the wall that day, and I think we're going to see this bit of shit sliding on down all evening long and well into the following weeks.

(30,613 posts)The only postal link is the county delivering my ballot to me. I'll drop it off in person at the County Registrar (in VA). I did just receive an election advisory and sample ballot from the county, so it looks OK so far.

(9,067 posts)In California. I've been doing it for years. Far easier than bothering about a polling place. Plus, getting a ballot in the mail allows me to take a few days and research some of the lesser races and ballot initiatives before casting a vote.
California's referendum system can end up with a ballot pages and pages long. There are almost always Propositions on there I've never even heard of, and all you have are the handful of paragraphs and statements made by interested parties to go by.
I'd rather take the time to make an informed vote. I could never do that in a polling place.

(30,613 posts)thanks to us flipping the statehouse blue in 2017 and 2019. You had to have a damned good "excuse" for absentee voting, previously.

(36,838 posts)wearing a mask at polling locations is only a recommendation.
Not that that would stop him from lying.

(9,067 posts)I imagine the regulations would be state by state. I did some googling around, and a lot of states are saying, "Strongly encouraged, but not required." But there's also an article from Aug. 18th saying that the SoS of Ohio is requiring masks.
It seems the governors and Secretaries of State have a lot of leeway on this one.
