I seem to remember some positive comments when Barr was appointed

People said he’d worked with Mueller and they were friends. Is that right? When did he turn Nazi? Or was he always that way? If it had been true I wonder what Mueller thinks of him now.

The whole Washington insider thing was laid bare as ridiculous with him receiving any kind of bipartisan support. He was AG for Bush Sr. He was in favor of mass incarceration back then and supported the stupid "Unitary Executive" bullshit.

Most importantly, he helped cover up the Iran-Contra treason by helping Bush Sr. to pardon all the scumbags. Barr was a treasonous piece of shit back then and he has not changed.

and was behind the pardon by Bush I of the Iran-Contra culprits. From what I'm hearing he'd always been teetering on the edge of an extreme view of the law and the Constitution, but it wasn't expected that he'd go so completely and blatantly rogue as he has done recently. He'd managed not to be so obvious about it until now.

. . .but I took all that as wishful thinking. I don't have the details in my head anymore, but he was key in facilitating Geo HW Bush's escape from obstruction of justice charges in the aftermath of Iran contra. Like Alito, he thinks presidential power has no bounds.

I put as much credence in the "Barr's really not that bad" crap as I did in the "Gorsuch isn't really that bad" bullshit.

A comment I made somewhere else, reposted here:

Remember when Bill was heralded as an institutionalist who would restrain trump and force him to play by the book? (If the relevant associations aren’t going to disbar him, at least I can... )

https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-trump-barr-nauert-20181207-story.html

At the same time, however, some who worked with Barr said they were relieved by the choice, noting that he had deep ties to federal prosecutors and law enforcement, including Mueller, who headed the Justice Department’s Criminal Division in Barr’s previous stint as attorney general.

“He is very much an institutionalist,” said Joe Whitley, who served with Barr in the top ranks of the Justice Department. “He eats, sleeps, breathes the ether of the Department of Justice. He is a person of great integrity. I can’t see him doing anything other than by the book.”

Former FBI Director James B. Comey, whom Trump fired, also praised Barr.

“I like and respect Bill Barr. I know he’s an institutionalist who cares deeply about the integrity of the Justice Department,” Comey told reporters Friday.

Just a reminder, there are no good republicans. The only ones that might be good are now the ones that are now on the outside of the party and are now calling for it to be burned down. Time will tell if they’re at all honorable, or just opportunists sensing a shift in the wind.

Oh, and just one more edit to add: Fuck james comey.

He maintained at least the façade of being an Establishment guy while operating behind the scenes, but it was only when he started working for Trump that he concluded there was no need to be clandestine about his fixing. What has surprised a lot of people is how he's now promoting insane conspiracy theories and blatantly lying in public. I guess he saw that if the boss was doing those things there was no reason he couldn't.
