His books are not actually used in many schools, though kids would learn more actual history if they were. The three major history publishers are Pearson, Glencoe McGraw-Hill, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. I don’t know the market share of each, but I suspect that together they have 85-90% of the school market, with a few smaller and online publishers having the rest. They all definitely present history from the white perspective, so as usual Trump doesn’t have a clue what is really happening in schools. Nor does whoever wrote that speech for him.

I did a couple of years teaching U.S. History along with journalism classes at a high school in suburban Denver in the mid-1990s. I slipped Zinn's "People's History of the U.S." into the syllabus, and then even told the parents about it at back-to-school night. Not a word of protest. Those were different times.
