So far so good. The first 3 questions have been on COVID. Joe is hitting every point. He is hitting hard on Trump.
Joe is talking to people, not over them.

(19,060 posts)Hes doing good, but hes too intense and that has caused him to ramble a couple times. He has all the answers, just needs to slow down.
crickets
(25,969 posts)He's dropped his voice a bit and slowed down. He sounds good, hitting all the elements in his answers and taking his time so he doesn't stumble. I don't think the initial high spirits really hurt him, though - the crowd was impressed enough to applaud early on.
eta - and they applauded again when he got annoyed about being pointed out as the first president who would be elected without an Ivy League degree.

(13,040 posts)learned how to control pretty well to me. He articulates well, is highly intelligent, highly experienced and a principled man with great integrity - qualities we so desperately need right now.
I recall when i was young i was told by one of my highschool teachers that my mind was racing so fast my mouth couldn't keep up with it & some things came out funny LOL. I still encounter this once in a while.

(330 posts)is that everyone questioner seems to be a Democrat, whereas all the one's at Trump's were supposedly undecided. So that's how they are gonna play it: Biden got softball questions.

In a way, I am somewhat disappointed that he played that up, we have enough anti-intellectual behavior in this country now, Ivy Leaguers are viewed as the pinnacle of intellectualism.

(26,044 posts)The Ivy League isnt an intellectual concept, its an athletic conference. It has eight specific members:
Brown
Columbia
Cornell
Dartmouth
Harvard
Penn
Princeton
Yale
Just being a recognized, top-shelf university isnt enough. Otherwise, Stanford and many other universities would be part of it.
onetexan
(13,040 posts)label isn't terribly important. There are people who get diplomas from those institutions and have no sense whatsoever (ala the Con who bought his degree).
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)academically on the same level with schools like Harvard. MIT and Cal Tech are superior to Harvard, Yale and other Ivys in technical disciplines.
onetexan
(13,040 posts)elite ivies, "hidden" ivies, tech ivies, public ivies, etc. When my last kid was considering colleges my goal for her was just to be happy at a good school where she'll get an excellent education. My very liberal kiddo had many offers including ivies and snotty, expensive conservative schools but chose to attend UT Austin. IMO it's the best among southern schools for the value, ROI and name recognition. Well she saved us a bundle and we're Longhorn fans so was all good.
Blue_true

(31,261 posts)that one is not Ivy League. That seems to be playing somewhat to the dumb downed voter that views and Ivy League education as a problem. When I was in Engineering school, the main textbook that I used was written by by a Cal Tech Professor and a Carnegie-Mellon Professor, I can promise you that MIT Engineering majors in my field were using the same textbook, because the two Professors were legends in that field of Engineering. My own Engineering Professors were either from Cal Tech or Yale/Princeton, only a handful werent. So, I get a little defensive when a politician works to portray as the everyday common man (though I believe that Joe is the real true deal in that regard), all of us that have college degrees have linages to Ivy League schools or high powered schools like Cal Tech through our instructors.

(26,044 posts)...is his referring to St. Johns as a Protestant church. Lots of Episcopalians, probably a majority, consider their denomination to be reformed Catholic, deeply dislike being lumped in as Protestant (which they connect to right-wing evangelicals), and get really annoyed when Roman Catholics dismiss the Episcopal Church, as has been done repeatedly over the ages, in a derogatory way as just another group of Protestant schismatics and heretics. It wont sit well with some Episcopalians to see a Roman Catholic candidate go out of his way to describe their parish as a Protestant church why not just a church?
Demsrule86

Trump, as we saw at the town hall and see again tonight, has been incessantly and egregiously dishonest.

(633 posts)If any RW media tries to make fun of Joe's stammering, he needs to say, "Yes, I have a speech impediment....I am a stutterer and you mocking me about that says more about you than it does about me!"
I remember when Sarah Sanders mocked Joe's ability to speak. She later apologized that she didn't know he was a stutterer (I don't believe her....I'm sure she knew)!
