LONDONLawyers representing the United States at Julian Assanges extradition trial in Britain have accepted the claim that the WikiLeaks founder was offered a presidential pardon by a Congressman on the condition that he would help cover up Russias involvement in hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee.
Jennifer Robinson, a lawyer, told the court that she had attended a meeting between Assange, then Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, and pro-Trump troll Charles Johnson at Assanges hide-out, the Ecuadorian embassy in London, on August 15, 2017.
Robinson said the two Americans claimed to be emissaries from Washington and wanted us to believe they were acting on behalf of the president. The pair allegedly told Assange that they could help grant him a pardon in exchange for him revealing information about the source of the WikiLeaks information that proved it was not the Russians who hacked Democratic emails.
They stated that President Trump was aware of and had approved of them coming to meet with Mr. Assange to discuss a proposaland that they would have an audience with the president to discuss the matter on their return to Washington, D.C., Robinson said.

(29,322 posts)How obvious can you be? I can't believe there are people out there that deny Russian interference. If Trump isn't compromised why is he always covering up for Russia?

In a 2016 conversation with fellow members of House leadership, the majority leader, Kevin McCarthy, suggested that Donald Trump was on Vladimir Putins payroll.
In an exchange first reported by the Washington Post, McCarthy said: Theres theres two people, I think, Putin pays: [California Representative Dana] Rohrabacher and Trump [laughter] swear to God.
According to the transcript, speaker Paul Ryan immediately responded: This is an off-the-record [laughter] NO LEAKS [laughter] alright?!

(46,038 posts)Why didn't Assange take the deal? Was it because Trump could only neutralize the federal criminal charges and do nothing about the civil litigation that would remain?

(29,322 posts)His lawyers probably advised him against it because who is he going to say the source is? Seth Rich? That bullshit is one of many reasons why Assange lost credibility. The real source is Russia which is why he shouldn't take a pardon for lying about the source.

(9,958 posts)Every person involved needs to be brought up on charges if possible. I hope Biden appoints an Independent Counsel to fully investigate every aspect of the 2016 election (including exactly what Russian hackers did in the voter databases and the voting machines) and Trumps financial ties to Russia and whether they compromised his actions as president to the extent of treason.
