In restaurants. The CDC had a warning ad but you cant post it.
How many here on D.U. feel perfectly safe eating in a restaurant? Not me.

(1,123 posts)I don't see how it's safe, everyone has their masks off to eat and drink, I don't care how far apart the tables are.

(52,126 posts)We've had takeout pizza exactly twice since March.
I can't imagine sitting inside a restaurant. So much not worth it.

(34,857 posts)I've had food delivered to my house pretty much every week since coming home in March and I've been okay.
I'm sure it's not 100% safe, obviously, but nowhere near the same as going out to eat.

(5,518 posts)But I am not sure it means what they say it means.
People who are more likely to eat out are also most likely to engage in all sorts of other behaviors that expose them. Like bars, gyms, parties, etc.
People who are still wary of eating out are likely a lot more cautious in all of their social interactions.
Certainly dining out is a risk factor but it seems that it is only one factor among a plethora of lifestyle choices that could affect the likelihood of ending up positive.

(52,126 posts)Moreover, I didn't see if it distinguished between inside and outside dining or extra precautions like improved ventilation or single table restaurants.
That said, given that we know from other research that restaurants are risky, as they involve some measure of interaction with people outside your own household as well as bypassing any masks, and usually less than ideal ventilation, it adds to the suggestion that restaurants are hot spots for contracting Covid.

Maybe next year some time.

(2,220 posts)Ill only get takeout if it does not come through a dining room. I know a lot of folks in the restaurant industry and heard their stories and fears.

(18,973 posts)2 out of every 3 people who test positive for Covid-19 right now had been inside a restaurant to dine in the last 2 weeks. It's the single thing that is the biggest risk along with attending in person church.

(18,973 posts)COvid-19 patients were twice as likely as people who tested negative to report dining out in the previous 2 weeks.

(38,601 posts)...and not lingering too long. Face mask back on right after food/drink gone.
No communal food.
Hand sanitizer before, during, after.
Oh, and go somewhere close and keep your legs crossed until you get home if you must (i.e., no venturing into bathrooms if can avoid it).

(12,712 posts)According to the Orange Virus Enabler, we are now going for herd mentality so everybody is supposed to catch it as a part of their patriotic and civic duty.
Eat, drink and get COVID-19, for tomorrow we may DIE!
Presidents can now willingly commit 2-nd degree murder and get away with it. Go figure. Maybe he WILL lose votes though since shooting somebody on 5th Avenue might not do the trick. Let's eradicate millions of people and find out.

(10,974 posts)Both times we were the only customers in the restaurant. We had to sanitize on coming in, got our own silverware and napkins and such, and the staff were masked and gloved the entire time.
I still felt pretty weird about it - and had it been busier I wouldn't have done it.

(21,596 posts)It could be years before I or my family eat out.
We have ordered takeout from a local restaurant with strict safety practices and curbside pickup.

(2,367 posts)...social distancing, no bathroom visits, masks etc. But I WON"T be venturing inside when the weather gets cold. It's SHARED AIR that spreads the virus...I don't care how far apart the tables are. Restaurants are not safe again until we have a working vaccine...period.

(4,507 posts)but as the weather gets colder this will stop. And I will not go to an inside restuarant.

(5,554 posts)A lot of places around here have added temporary outdoor seating, but I'm not comfortable with that either.
In a month or so, these places are going to really feel the pain as they lose that outdoor seating capacity. I'm expecting to lose several of our favorite places over the winter. There is not nearly enough being done to help restaurant and entertainment businesses.
I've done carry out, but haven't been in a restaurant.

(33,999 posts)Generally limited to people live with. If anyone else is with us masks on and off for the briefest time possible - and we arrange the chairs with gaps between the bubbled groups.
And rarely.5 times since March.

I havent been staying in since March so I get Covid because she wants to eat out!
It amazes me how everyone has become so relaxed. Then get mad at the people doing what they should.

I feel the second wave will soon be upon us. Certainly if Europe is any indication and we as a nation are far far more stupid then Europe.

But inside? No. Not going to chance it yet.

(2,958 posts)we will dine in. We target Milwaukee County because businesses there are taking it more seriously. The staff are masked up as are upon arrival. We dined at a couple of places (we've been going to for years) and the staff wasn't masked. We won't be going back, if ever.
However, for the moment we'll avoid areas around college campuses. The UW in Madison is now a major (national) hot spot.
