How do Republicans put themselves back together after Trump?

Trump is not going to release his supporters to the Republican Party. They are his army. They are his militia. He will continue to use them to further his own interests.

Old-line Republicans will have to start over or they will all have to become part of the Trump Party.

Surely, this is something they have thought about?

How do they become a legitimate political Party once Trump is no longer in power? He will not surrender control of his cult to anyone. They will dance with him or they will dance with no one.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of cowards.

So even if Trump loses in November, he will be shouting and inserting his voice in the republican circles. He isn't going to let the golden egg go because he can continue to make money off them.

My prediction would be that Trump/republicans has to lose a few elections before the republican base will desert him.

They are already building it.
Then the Lincoln party will begin digging up the remains of old discredited policy and bringing fresh body parts to the lab to construct an all new monster. Put money on it. It is the safest bet in the world.

This shit did not start with him.

It took 30 years of AM hate radio and the political mutation of modern american christianity to allow the party to have a complete sociopath take it over.

THEY, the Nwet Gingriches and the endless array of conservative profiteers like Rush, Hannity, etc. who live a high life making big coin feeding the poison to the zombie base have created the Frankensteins monster that is the GOP.

You are right he won't let it go, his one master skill is manipulating weak people.

Functionally, this is now a full on white supremacist, deranged conspiracy party now.

No one is going to magically ride in on a horse of reason and decency to take it back.

Republicans might have to do something about the media monsters they've allowed to run rampant on Fox and RW hate radio, or at least tolerate the possibility without pushing back so hard. It finally might occur to them that lack of responsibility in 'news' media is a problem so out of hand that it cuts both ways now.

I know. Pigs might fly.

the destruction of the GOP is thorough under trump and stephen Miller. They will hold some state and local power, but overall a minority party as they have no policies that can attract a wider voter base. You can't be a party based on racism, ignorance and hate and be successful after trump.

Think of the Exodus story of Moses and the Children of Israel wandering the desert for 40 years. Some theologians interpret that story to mean that the entire generation of slaves had to die off before the new generation could enter the promised land, with no direct memory of being slaves.

This entire generation of Republicans needs to die off before the party can be taken seriously on the political scene.

Remember when being conservative meant favoring existing norms, values, and traditions, and being opposed to sudden and dramatic changes to those norms? Remember when it meant respect for the rule of law, and for holding leaders to high standards of personal morality and ethics?

Yeah, I don't remember those days either. But they should try to get back to them anyway.

As much as I support our side, and know that there's a real need for change in this country, I don't doubt the possiblity that we might be tempted to push too far, too fast without an effective counterbalance to slow us down. I think a healthy Republican party would be good for the country in the long-term, but I don't see a path for them to get there with the deluded voter-base they have cultivated over the last fifty years.

Trump's supporters are a bunch of hardcore Fox News watchers who watch nothing else and willingly accept anything they are told as absolute truth. They are lied to 24-7 and live in a different reality. However Fox News decides to handle the aftermath, the Trump sheep herd will follow right along, because Fox News is their reality.

They never, ever learn from the abysmal fuckups of the shatteringly incompetent shitheads they maneuver into the Oval Office. Once the country has sobered up and regained its senses, and we have eight years of Democratic re-building under our belts, the pukes go prospecting for an even more lousy, squalid, underachieving, hate-filled, hapless, dunderhead to nominate.

Nothing about the GOP right now can convince me they're going to do anything other than double-down on their own fecklessness. Their one challenge is finding someone even more incomprehensibly worthless than Trump.

I see the repukes splitting into two parties. Those that supported Biden aka traitors to the hardcore nuts and the maga hardcore racist nuts.

they will be a purity test among the rank and file repukes, those who fail will be banished to the center and those who pass will get a nazi armband.

then you will also have a small but vocal contingent of the nuts the qanon brownshirts. they will be the ones cracking the whip to make sure they stay crazy and in the political woods for the foreseeable future.

There will be different factions within the party of course, but Fox News (which is the Republican Party) will immediately begin reunification efforts behind a new leader. Trump will fade away (white evangelicals will have no more use for him when it becomes evident he really wasn't the "chosen one" after all) and a new leader who supports abortion and Israel and appeals to the rich will emerge.

They may try, but not all conservatives are the far reichwing radicals the pledged their lives to a tin-plated messiah. Just most of them.

I still hold to the belief that anyone who became or remained a rethug throughout the 1990s is damaged goods. Sorry to Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt, but you wholeheartedly followed the political party of Newt Gingrich, Bill Barr, Ken Starr, Henry Hyde, Rick Santorum, on and on ad nauseam, but you have to acknowledge that stain before you can wash it clean.
