We voted today in North Carolina

My wife and I don't trust the USPS so we hand delivered our ballots at the county board of elections. They were accepted and a few other people were there doing the same thing. Coincidentally, the mail delivery truck arrived while we were there with a stack of ballots returned by mail.

We were also contacted today by Biden GOTV and will be signing up to help out.

Once they "accept" it, is your vote basically guaranteed? Or can they still "void" it after they open it because you didn't sign properly or some crap like that? Basically I'm just wondering what sort of information they check to determine whether to "accept" it or not. I take it they don't open the envelop right there, right?

There is no place to sign on the actual ballot, which is identified with a number when you receive it. The voter signs the envelope with their address and phone number and 1 witness (no notary needed) signing as well. If there are any problems they call you so you can fix the problem. We hand delivered ours to make certain there were no problems either with mail delivery or with signing. After receiving it and checking the envelope it was put in a bin. If there are signature matching problems later they will call. You can also track your ballot online.
