Once upon a time not so long ago parents weren't told the sex of their children until birth--just like billions of parents had all through human history. Grandmas knitted baby booties, bonnets, and sweaters in gender neutral colors and nurseries were done in yellows, greens, and white. The added bonus was that everything could be reused with the next baby arrival.
The sensationalized and commercialized exploitation of birth announcements is ridiculous. Why not have a baby shower after the baby is born and with only close family and the closest of friends?
In some countries babies are aborted if they are the undesired sex--usually girls.

I've seen that phrase several times recently, but I have no idea what it is.

No doubt they started out simple with a blue or pink cake, but they've morphed into complex events including ones with pyrotechnics.

Just have them without the use of incendiary devices. Why not use pink or blue cakes?
