From my Jewish sister tonight re: RBG

So horrible that RBG died today. Rosh Hashana began at sunset - Iím pretty sure every virtual or in person Jewish service will mourn her. Ours did. Well, letís keep fighting!

1. I have just read that according to Jewish tradition,

a person who dies on Rosh Hashanah is a tzaddik, a person of great righteousness.

2. Interesting. Tzaddik is also associated with justice.

7. I heard...

Brian Williams say that. Though he described it as being somehow more divine and righteous or that's how I understood it.

Somehow it seems appropriate.

She has meant so much to all of us.

6. So my husband was watching services on tv -- and he said Mourner's Kaddish for the great Ruth...

The great Justice Ruth. Rest in Peace, great soul.

8. Baruch Dayan Ha'Emet - blessed is the true judge

There is a Jewish tradition that those that die on Rosh hashana are tzaddik, or a person of great righteousness.
Baruch Dayan Ha'Emet is the response that is given when greeting others, who know the deceased.
It is actually a blesssing to the true judge, who is God, but it certainly fits regarding Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
