Hot take.....a supreme court vacancy

is the Republicns worst nightmare right now.

Of courae filling a vacancy is what these assholes live for, but they do not want this on the plate right now.

They would much rather have been able to tell conservatives and even moderates that they needed to be elected because of thebsupreme court, but if they get to fill RBGs spot it takes away the urgency and makes it easier for those voters to stay home or even vote Dem based on dislike of Trump. It was the Supreme court that led to a lot of folks holding their nose and voting Trump in 2016.

Senators are going to be forced to defend pushing a vote through in their races based on what happened in 2016. If the nominee has a fatal flaw they will have to wear that as well.

Biden shouldnt release a name to give them a target to go after, just release general information on the type of person he would nominate. A generality will beat a real person in perception every time.

. I'm sure they are going to get bribed by a bunch of corporate lobbyists to push a judge through. They will also be rewarded with great jobs in case they lose their election.

and high pay do matter. Paul passed through unpopular legislation that he knew would not get him re-elected simply because he was guaranteed a lot of money and a great corporate job. Paul didn't even bother to run for reelection knowing he was going to lose.

knew that even if he won reelection he was going to lose the majority and his speakership. With that he was going to lose his monority leadership and potential future speakership to McCarthy.

Ryan didn't choose to lose power, it was gone and so he left too.

big bucks when they leave is a perk, it's not the goal.

But the flood of voters in opposition - either to stop a Trump pick or in complete outrage at Republican power moves - is a virtual oceans worth.

Here's how they use it to their advantage:

They need the vacancy to drive their turnout. So what they could do is make a big noise about a specific nominee, but find a handful of safe GOP senators to gum up the works just enough so it keeps the urgency on their side. They would have the nominee as a carrot to hold out in front of their voters and herd them to the polls.

they have used the abortion issue for a half-century now. They are really good at the duplicity and maneuvering that pays off in American modern electoral politics. What they actually aren't so good at is governing but they can manipulate voters like no one's business.

Waiting until after the election would cause a revolt in the base.

This forces them to walk a tight rope. The moderates in the US are going to come down on the side of this should wait until after the election and the next President decide. The conservatives are going to want a justice tomorrow.

If they wait, the conservatives are going to call the RINOs and Trump is going to start attacking them on Twitter. If they push it, democrats are going to use it as a cudgel and it will work with the moderates and independents. There will be a rallying cry among the left to pack the court and it may never have more public support than if Republicans push the nomination two weeks before an election.
