Trump doesn't care about overturning Roe

He probably prefers it to NOT be overturned, just in case he needs it.

Trump's more urgent need is staying in office long enough to run out the Statutes of Limitations on some of the shit he's pulled. If he tries to put another justice on the court, it'll be a Trump toady sent to protect His Corpulence from the police.

He wants his own personal court, and if he could get Barr on there he will certainly have it.

.

He wants to negate the influence of a swing Republican Judge, like Roberts.

I think some folks are in denial right now at just how in danger Roe and other laws are.

And Roe isn’t the only decision the extreme right hates. My opinion is the decision that’s most in danger is not Roe, it’s Obergefell. If you called 100 right wing extremists in and said, “you have a choice of two decisions to reverse. You can ban abortion nationwide for all time, or you can abolish gay marriage nationwide for all time. But if you pick one, you can never call for the other to be abolished ever again,” most of them would vote to get rid of gay marriage. After all, you have to hold the Bible sideways and squint hard to get “Jesus hates abortion” out of it, but there are several passages that specifically ban homosexuality. (And there’s that pesky “how to perform an abortion” section in Numbers to deal with...) Yes, they hate abortion...but that happens behind closed doors. Gays refuse to hide anymore, and right wing extremists hate that. If given the choice, they would reverse EVERY decision that gave gays rights. They would lock them in prison, castrate them and kill them for just being themselves.

It is my opinion that given the chance, the extreme right would turn America into a Christian version of Saudi Arabia.

They can have both and gay marriage has not NEARLY animated the right the way abortion has.

The Anti Abortion Industry is the most reliable cash cow the GOP has. I don’t think they’ll ever outright ban it (making it almost impossible to receive abortion care is another matter; they will do that in an instant) because all the people who donate money to get abortion banned will stop donating if it was...and the GOP needs the money.

it ceases to be a cash cow the first time they have a real shot and they pass.

And another version of Roe will come almost immediately on the heels of it being overturned.

So if you are operating on that paradigm, they overturn Roe, then the Dems get a couple of wave elections based on it, pass a new version of Roe/get a court to hold it, and they are right back with the cash cow again plus the credibility of saying, when we had the chance, we killed it, let's do it again.

They can and will overturn it if given the chance.
