A friend of mine wrote this poem tonight

The Notorious R.B.G.
by Linda D. Addison

Notorious you, here for 87 years,
Brooklyn girl, forever tough, no matter
what size, age. Justice Warrior to
the end, supporting gender equality, &
rights for those deemed less, in a land
claiming equality to all.

Gangsta you, here for 26 years
on the highest court, running to fairness,
not away, being the first female Jewish
justice, your smile, eyes diamond
clear, unbreakable gaze, in a land
claiming equality to all.

Teacher you, showing us the way
to overcome denial, see reality,
and common ground in a country
being lead to fracture, let us heal
in the memory of you, in a land
claiming equality to all.

You pass the dissent collar to us,
to be warriors of justice—now.
What will we do, in a land
claiming equality to all.
