There are tons of unwritten rules and "gentlemans agreements" in Washington. McConnell has shit all of those, so now the Dems don't feel bound to them either. If the Republicans aren't going to play be the unwritten rules then the Democrats won't either. Actions have consequences and the harder McConnell pushes the harder the Dems are going to push back.
