Maybe we just shouldn't bother voting this year?

I've been reading a lot of posts last night and today about the Supreme Court fight. Many, many posts along the lines of "the Republicans are going to ram through a new justice and there won't be any consequence as usual", "this is going to rile up the Republican base and help Trump win the election", "the democrats aren't going to fight back, they never do", "Trump can now steal with election and the courts will let it happen".

It all sounds pretty hopeless. I guess the country is officially lost, America is no longer a democracy, the democrats are just going to roll over and let the republicans do literally anything they want, and voters are not going care about any of it. If that's the case, have we officially conceded the election? Is American completely dead now? If all hope is lost, should we even bother voting this year?

The pessimists have convinced me, I'm not voting this year. Why should I? There is no hope left and we have lost the war.

If that is our view of where America is as a nation, not only should be not waste our time voting, the US is not worth saving.

Unless the pessimists are wrong.....

Edit: Glad to see all of the pissed off comments telling me to fuck off. Maybe this party has some fire in if yet and isn't wallowing in depression and defeat afterall. And here I thought I was at a pity party. Maybe not?

Many people on DU never read beyond the thread title and maybe the first paragraph, so many will not see your last line and understand what that means.

I predict you'll be seeing all that very shortly.

But I feel it's worth it, even if I snap one person out of their depressed funk. I suppose we will see what happens but I have no regrets. This election is too important for even one voter to give up.

NO ONE ON THIS SITE IS SAYING DON'T VOTE.

We have a right to be concerned, alarmed even. DU is where we voice those concerns, not with people in our lives who aren't political & might take our concerns to mean "don't vote."

I sure miss un-rec.

And my concern is that democratic voters can either give up since apparently the world ended last night or can toughen up and stop wallowing in grief over the death of the US, a country that is still very much alive. I'll be glad if I piss someone off since it will prove to me that the democrats aren't a bunch of depressed, hopeless pessimists.

The lady at the Board of Elections said I can expect my ballot to arrive in early October. My plan was to fill it out, put a stamp on it, and take it to the post office, and personally hand it to a clerk. But our state has not provided for tracking our mailed ballots to see they have been received. So I think I'll ask the clerk whether I can request a receipt. That will give a little more money to the PO, and I should receive my receipt in advance of the election. Yes, this sounds like a good plan.
