Reza Aslan declares war on Republicans if they 'even TRY to replace" Ruth Bader Ginsburg

In a blunt tweet drawing the battle lines over the plan by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to force through a vote to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court, former CNN contributor and religion expert Reza Aslan predicted all-out war on the Republican Party.

According to Aslan, even an attempt to replace the Supreme Court justice known as "RBG" would be greeted with fierce resistance.

"If they even TRY to replace RBG we burn the entire fucking thing down," he tweeted late Friday night after McConnell announced plans to replace her as soon as possible.

You can be angry and call out the hypocrisy, But the language of destruction plays into GOP hands and offers no viable response to the challenge.

What’s the point?

What must happen is the end of the filibuster and adding to the USSC. No compromises.

Barr and President Pennywise MUST be prosecuted.

And if there ever were poetic justice, Graham and McConnell will lose their elections. I’d love to know that they lost their power and are no longer protected by that treasure trove of scum.

unsigned bills or shelved bills do NOT survive the opening of a new Congress, which begins in January of next year. So those 400+ bills will simply die or they have to be resubmitted by the new Congress with a new bill number.

the nomination of RBG's replacement, it will occur AFTER the election, not before.

To do it before the election would hurt R's and they know that. But to do it after the election will give them the court they need to rule in favor of election challenges filed by Trump and R's who lose. This is the immediate danger of the appointment - that it could be used to give Trump and others an illegal win that would make 2000 pale in comparison.

But, there is an appropriations vote coming up. December, I think. Maybe Dems should be the ones to shut the government down this time around.

You may be right about the date being Jan 3.

But, regarding whether they will rush through a nomination and confirmation even over the holidays, yes, I think they might try since there is so much at stake for them and they are ruthlessly indifferent to norms when seeking to get and hold control.

Or, they might try to delay the swearing in with the claim that the vote results are "too uncertain."

Now, as I type, NPR is saying that Moscow Mitch and the impeached traitor have said they will not wait for the election. Maybe they think it does not matter if it hurts them at the polls, so long as they have the SC in their pocket.

One thing is certain. They will ruthlessly act outside of all norms, whether legal or not. We have to be prepated for anything and act strongly.

but the vote won't be until after. Donnie is falling all over himself wanting to nominate someone as quickly as possible, so we'll know who it is prior to election day. The sooner, the better I think, giving us plenty of time to go on the attack.

Senate won't make it by then, but they'll want to sit a new SC Justice in time for the election,
so that when Pendejo45 takes the election to the Supreme Court, they'll have a 6-3 majority.
Even if CJ Roberts descents it would still be 5-4.

I don't know who this clown is, but we don't need him to incite violence on behalf of Democrats. Just what Trump and the Republicans would love.

We do need for Chuck Schumer and the Democratic party to be fierce in calling out the hypocrisy of Mitch McConnell, and of Lindsey Graham if he supports McConnell after he said he would not support a late term SC appointment. No more nice guys and gals, but w/o violence. Flood their states with hard hitting campaign ads

Then when we regain the Senate and WH, increase the seats on the SC, begin the process to remove the Electoral College from the Constitution, and throw all the crooks in prison.

He’s a smart guy. And obviously he’s an angry guy, as are many here.

The last thing we need now is the Democratic equivalent of Susan Collins. We also don’t need threats about what Democrats will do in January. We need Schumer et al to fight fire with fire, whatever that may mean. Maybe it’s leverage on more republicans so that they follow Romney, Murkowski, and (shockingly) Collins. Whatever that leverage may be. Professional. Political. Personal. Maybe it’s directing millions in advertising and on the ground efforts against graham, mcsally, and others.

Shame doesn’t work. Appeals to integrity and honor don’t work. They are shameless. They are traitorous. And honor and integrity are no longer even in the rest view mirror.
