I won't have to do this as we vote by mail and I'm dropping it off at the elections office.

In such touchy times, it is important to give those eager to be bad nothing to use. And good people nothing to require them to enforce the law rigidly. Even my new $15 blue donkey socks would be left home. Definitely not worth having to start all over again at the back of the line.

(15,324 posts)polling station is NOT the place. Political campaigning or advertising is not allowed by law (for fairly obvious reasons). And besides that -- you're just being a jerk.

(1,573 posts)there were instructions to not allow any political signs/clothing/etc within 100 feet of the entrance to the polling station. I was signing people into the process when I noticed a woman wearing a "W" pin. (it was 2004). I asked her to remove it. She got furious when I explained the reason. She ultimately didn't refuse and removed it but immediately after she voted she complained loudly to the Precinct Manager. He supported my position. She was one unhappy camper. Thought she was going to explode when I asked.

(23,009 posts)You are supposed to either take the things off, or conceal them, and you aren't supposed to display signs within a certain distance of the entry. If you wear anything, and somebody notices, they'll make you take it off or conceal it before you get to vote.
When I went to my polling place the last few times, I did wear a plain light blue shirt. And my husband would wear his navy blue sweat shirt.

(51,100 posts)and all of that needs to go in the trash. The stickers alone cost millions of dollars nationwide. I wish Dems didn't do this, but they always do. It is such a waste. I get that local elections don't get nearly as much attention as national elections but handing out materials to people in line to vote is maybe not the best way to do it.

(40,318 posts)"Can I wear election-related clothing to the polls?
Michigan has prohibited the practice of displaying election-related materials at the polls for decades. This includes clothing and buttons as well as materials such as pamphlets, fliers and stickers. You cannot display such items in the polling place or within 100 feet of an entrance to a polling place. If you go to the polls with a shirt or button bearing election-related images or slogans, you will be asked to cover or remove it."

You're fine with a BLM t-shirt or RBG button in Michigan.

(1,789 posts)And a mask to protect myself and my wife. I'm in Texas where no masks are required to vote in person and you need to be 65 or have some special reason to vote by mail. If someone gives me grief, all I will do is what I am there to do: vote.

(178,424 posts)Do not wear anything political. We had fun in 2008 with an idiot who bought 1000 toilet plungers and decorated these plungers for McCain for Joe the Plumber. The Obama legal team sent out a well drafted legal memo on this issue and I had fun sending this memo to Prof. Hasen https://electionlawblog.org/?p=97946
The Obama campaign issued a memo taking the position that plungers represent support for a political candidate and bringing them to the polling place was electioneering.
