(45,558 posts)These sons of bitches get free stadiums to ply their trade and then deny a guy a chance to make little bit more from the billions of dollars they make...
It's a sad state of the game when the greed of a few very rich people can spoil it for all the guys who literally put their lives on the line for a fraction of the money they make because of what is essentially a monopoly.
Especially here in Cleveland where they put out such a dreadful product and we continue to support them. A now they are talking about grabbing more by making the stadium into a dome, as if that is the problem with the team.
I can hear it now, they will squawk about it, rumors will run rampant about the team moving again.
I like football, but I put my allegiance to OSU. I know it's almost the same, especially given the event of the last few years, but at least most of those kids are playing for tuition and the glory of playing Football.

(1,688 posts)But that was a fricken touchdown. Jennings should have batted the ball down in the first place and there will be no controversy. Then again, everyone is acting like the union ref never bad any bad calls, I remember the Seahawks v Steelers Superbowl where the refs made so many bad calls that gave the Steelers the super bowl.
I swore off watching the NFL ever again but what do you know, I am still here. Dont even get me tarted with new England games when the refs blew the whistle every time a defender touched Brady. Srry guys but that was a good call on my bood and you would have been ok with it if the union refs made the call.
Nothing to see here guys.

(1,277 posts)By every objective analysis that was a by-the-book interception. They blew it. They also blew a blatant offensive pass interference on Tate on the same play. It was a botch of epic proportions. FUBAR. A melt down. A monkey fuck.
But by all means, pass the bong my way....

(45,558 posts)One of my first clients was a gay female impersonator. OMG, he was fun and I enjoyed going out to see his shows. He would have LOVED Project Runway
Unfortunately, he was one of the first of many that I knew who passed on because of AIDS. The late 80's were horrible here in Cleveland.

(501 posts)Since all scores are reviewed up in the booth, they have the final say. Not the scabs they have for refs. Since the booth worker isn't a scab, it's his/her responsibility.
Blaming this on the scabs is just stupid.

(1,277 posts)These guys are coming from the NAIA, Division II and III ranks. The speed of this game is nothing like they see at Shitburg State on Saturday afternoons.
That being said, it's fair to criticize the people that put them there. And it's warranted in this case.
And it's FAR FROM ONE GAME. Last night was an epic meltdown as well and there have been numerous other examples of horrible officiating throughout the first 3 weeks of the season.

(501 posts)where I said it wasn't the scab refs who made the final call. It was the employees in the booth.

(29,346 posts)There was a proposal this off-season to give the booth official responsibility for actually doing the review, but the proposal failed.

(17,139 posts)Goodell ultimately works for the owners. If they don't want to budge, he can't.
They are determined not to let the union win. The amount of money is minuscule, but they don't want to lose.
They are stuck on a couple of points. The owners don't want to fund a pension system because then the refs will be the only part time employees with that. However, they are really taking the pension away because that has been a part of the refs benefits for years. The league wants to hire more officials, but the refs don't want to enlarge the pool.
The refs are not from D1 football. They are from every league that can be found including the Lingerie League.

(49,212 posts)The players aren't allowed to strike in solidarity with the locked out officials, but they CAN do so because of dangerous conditions created by bad officiating. Considering the number of completely unacceptable hits resulting in injury this weekend, I think they should.
