Watching 1971 Dick Cavett interview of Lillian Hellman

https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2011/jan/22/lillian-hellman-childrens-hour-sarah-churchwell

Great playwright who stood up to the right wing assholes of her time.

I don’t have the link to the video

Listening to her you would think it was now, but it is worse now than any time in history because well folks it’s over. We’re gonna have to start new. We can do it.

1. There are a ton of Dick Cavett shows on YouTube

A bit before my time but the combination of the guests and the format were great.

2. Such a good interviewer and everybody loved him

He very carefully navigated the political waters by obviously being an adult i.e. liberal but was very careful and made everyone comfortable.

Not past tense either, my bad, he’s still very much alive.

3. Yes he's still going

And he was a really good thoughtful interviewer during his heyday.

He also used to have a history show on HBO called “Remember When” that captivated me as a child.
