(16,844 posts)People think that cats don't love their humans because they're so much more independent than dogs, but they know they are loved and they give love in return, in their way. I've been ill for the past year, so I haven't been able to take care of a pet, but I'll be going home from the hospital soon and I'm going to get another cat. Dogs are too needy, IMO. They're mostly sweet animals, but I prefer the temperament of a cat.

(5,164 posts)Mostly it is a dislike for them. My cats have all been different with different personalities, they have all been devoted to me mostly though and to other family members, as I write one is sleeping on my feet and my other, a siamese who is my shadow, is by my side in his bed.... one of my babies spooned with me every night of his life... they are so loving... yes they are def less work than dogs, no walking etc. but I used to walk some of them, lol. And I make home made food for mine which is a lot of work.
I am sorry you have been so ill, I hope you get out soon and get your companion, get two and then they can play together😻 I do love dogs too, my pup was my best friend as a young child, but I have been a cat person for too long now, maybe a little dog one day though.

(16,844 posts)I'm doing better than I have in a long time. I've got a couple of weeks of rehab coming up for my leg and I'll be going home. It's going to be so nice to be out of the hospital and home again! Thanks again, and take care!

Lol but yes they each show their love in unique ways for sure! I hope you get well soon and can get home and get your new friend!

(16,844 posts)I loved that movie! I like just about anything with Ben Stiller in it.
Thanks for the good wishes. I've been in and out of the hospital for the past year and it looks like I've finally had my last surgery, or at least the last one for a good while. I've been in the hospital for the past two months and I'm so looking forward to going home and finally picking back up where I left off a year ago. I'm also looking forward to getting me a new friend to share my time with. Take care of yourself and best of luck!

One of the things I miss most about the Las Vegas sports betting community was its real world handicapping of this issue. I never heard one kind or tolerable word about cats in the 24 years I lived there.
I have to say I'm skeptical about the premise of this thread. Dogs react to words in combination and tone combined with shared eye contact. It is a joy to see them react like that. But I doubt the specific words "I love you" are trigger any more than 3 similar length and rhythm words would be, if repeated often enough.

(20,245 posts)I would rather it dries up. Looks like I got the crud. It really did a number on me. I am sorely lacking in the patience dept.
I'll give it another day or two and mb revisit the doc. Ms. El Exigente, The Demanding One.😇
So nice of you to remember and then ask. 😍

(2,810 posts)We have 5 acres and our next door neighbor has 26 acres. We have coyotes and deer regularly and our Goldie wants to chase. Normally she doesnt get the opportunity, but in her early years she was adept at bolting whenever the door opened.
On this occasion I was just going out to water the plants on the patio, she pushed passed me and started running. I didnt know what she was after. Im running after her yelling Goldie come, Goldie stay! Goldie no. She was getting further away and closing in on a busy intersection and I knew I couldnt catch her. Scared, I fell to my knees, spread my arms out wide and yelled after her But I love you! She stopped and looked at me and ran all the way back to my arms. Disaster averted. I hugged her and told her again that I loved her. We walked back home together without a leash.
I love that story
I was so grateful that she turned around!

(2,810 posts)She is a rescue who was anxiety aggressive. When we met her she showed teeth and backed up barking. Honestly, she scared me when we met her. We decided to try and help her. On the way home from the fosters, we stopped at a grocery to get some supplies to hold over until pet stores opened. She cried when I left the car. She jumped on my lap when I returned. She put her head on my shoulder and weve been bonded since. We are each others comfort pet/person. We are so lucky. And FYI, she looks like the picture you have as an avatar.
