Can we please stop with the Trump has dementia thing?

Last edited Sun Sep 20, 2020, 10:00 AM - Edit history (1)

He doesn't. He's just an asshole. He just has more power now than he ever has before and whatever tiny filter he had before he doesn't need anymore. Please don't give him the excuse of a physical illness to explain his behavior. HE IS AN EGOMANIACAL ASSHOLE, and this is his true personality.

ON EDIT: I should have added drugs...there are definitely drugs involved with Trump's behavior.

He's shown signs of it in word slurring and losing sense of direction at times, not to mention the comparison of videos of the younger trump and current videos of him. There's undeniable decline.

That doesn't mean he's suffering from complete, 24/7 cognitive impairment. He can still spend an hour on his comb-over and make-up everyday and then go out and have ego-stroking rallies where he insanely urges his sycophants to not wear masks during this worldwide pandemic, but he's still an evil mfer—trying to install dictatorship here—when he's lucid. Or should I say semi-lucid because anyone urging people not to wear masks when infections from covid and deaths are raging every-fucking-where has to be somewhat nuts.

And further more, what sane person loses money running casinos? Casinos are designed to make money for the house but trump somehow managed to go bankrupt in the casino business, several times.

Trump can even be a an asshole AND have dementia AND be a baseline imbecile AND have had psychological issues. It's quite apparent that he was never, ever playing with a full deck to begin with.

If you can't see the deterioration over the past four years, you need to go back and watch some youtube tapes.

The people that are posting include medical professionals that are long standing members of DU. I respect their opinions.

He was COMPLETELY coherent and totally comprehending what was going on.

That actually makes it worse: Trump is INTENTIONALLY doing these things. I am no longer chalking it up to his stupidity or dementia. He is stupid and a narcissist, but he is totally aware of things. He probably has a substance problem, which causes his extremely odd behavior. But he knows full well what he is doing.

Taking orders from putin to destroy our country and kill / sicken as many people in the process as possible.

Blaming his behavior & decusions on dementia couod lead to an insanity plea if/ when he is prosecuted.

The man does not have dementia. He is simply a carnival barker with the largest crowd of suckers he ever thought possible. He is not terribly bright but he does know how to manipulate and he knows what people like to hear. Most of humanity prefers to follow any pied piper with the smoothest talk and the loudest voice. Thoughts jump around in his head like popping corn, which is why he seems incoherent at times.

are those part of developing dementia...could be, may be not.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, he is completely amoral and emotionally stunted.

I agree with you that this is the primary problem with him, but the possibility that he is contending with oncoming dementia or strokes is plausible as well.

But I have a gut feel that when we do get the full details, they will be horrifying.

He does seem to have deteriorated, both physically and mentally, far beyond the usual accelerated aging that other presidents seem to undergo as their terms progress.

(And will we ever find out why he made that weekend trip to Walter Reed (or was it Bethesda?) last year?)

Dementia is fairly quick. He's the same as he was 5 years ago. Maybe not as fast, maybe worse knees, and certainly older looking, but that's to be expected and unrelated.
