(30,733 posts)He was there with his wife and kid. The rule in the store is one family member only, unless the person needs physical assistance. Masks are the rule, too.
He would not stay distant from me, either. I was waiting for my order from the meat counter to be wrapped. He kept crowding me.
I ended up in a shouting match with him. His wife told him to wait in the car. He did.
Several people came up behind me to support me. Nothing else happened.
I spoke to one of the managers to let him know what had happened. He said they could not force people to wear masks.
Anyway, I am glad I spoke up.

(8,888 posts)they don't have to force anyone, BUT they don't have to serve them either. If they serve them, they are complicit

(12,363 posts)and that's the policy at my daughter's HD, anyone refusing to wear a mask will be trespassed off the property until they put a mask on.
ProfessorGAC
(64,998 posts)...the enforcement guidance from the AG was to consider noncompliance a form of trespassing.
Then, stores lost the "there's nothing we can do" excuse.
Call the cops, have the jerk cited for trespassing and have cops escort him out.
It's been done quite a number of times, around the state, in the last month or so.
dware
(12,363 posts)want to mask up, they're given 2 chances/warnings to put masks on or leave the property, if they refuse to mask up or leave, then the Sheriffs Office is called to remove them from the property, if they still refuse to leave, they are cited and escorted off the property, if they return, HD will call the S.O. and have them arrested for trespassing.

(3,313 posts)don't think twice about violence against anyone who says anything about being unmasked. Just watched the video with the 67 year old white man hitting a 12 year old girl with a flagpole.
These people remind me of violent zombies who have been infected. Infected with trumpitis. We need to be safe against their unwarranted wrath.

(26,729 posts)You're correct that he should be wearing a mask (unless you live in one of the places where there has been almost no infection), but if you're particularly endangered by your condition... you shouldn't be going anywhere near such people. You should just walk the other way or (if he's standing where you need to shop), you can ask store management to move him or lose your business.
I go the other way when I see such idiots.
Most people seem to be complying here, thank god.

(34,062 posts)You can almost certainly make a report online. There is also a tracker for compliance in the Cleveland area - not sure where they pull their data from.
But enforcement requires our assistance - if we don't tell the Health Department where the problems are, they don't know.
I'm pretty sure that the piggy-back rule requiring businesses to enfore the mask order in our counties is party the result of my repeated reports (and the fact that my spouse is on the board of health and she's tired of hearing my complaints about the failure of businesses to enforce the mask order).
No idea whether it will do any good for Home Depot - but Panera's customer service responded appropriately - and followed up.

(14,061 posts)My son works for a rival home improvement chain, and he sees this every day despite a mask mandate being in force. People who work at these places are in constant danger of being canned for the slightest of reasons, so dont blame them if they dont call out customers blame spineless management. The employees are also at risk from these idiots. The stress they feel (on top of the usual store crap) is very real.
Check to see who you can call in your county to report violations. Let them deal with it. In the meantime Im afraid your options are to give these idiots a wide berth or have someone else do your shopping. Both suck, but it sounds like home improvement stores are magnets for this kind of person. Every store or other place I go to, I see full compliance.

If you're at risk... then engaging with them is also "putting you in danger".

(20,174 posts)She said they have individually wrapped, complimentary masks, so there is no excuse not to wear one. Harris County (Houston) is still under a mask order and businesses can be fined $1000 for non-compliance. People are jerks

(12,363 posts)they can't force people to wear masks, but they can trespass them if the person refuses to mask up.

(12,363 posts)For one, I deliver to HD up and down the I-5 corridor, and, my daughter is a mid level manager at a HD, her HD does a pretty good job of enforcing the Gov. mandate that masks must be worn in public places, they also limit the number of customers in the store at one time.
Most of the HD's I deliver to are complying with the mask mandate.

(5,164 posts)Take photos and report it to the local & state health boards, post it on their fb page, publicize it anyway you can. If it is that bad I would just stay away from the offenders or dont go there anymore. Let them know they have lost your biz because the store is not safe.
Since all of this began I have only shopped once at Lowes during a power failure. Everyone there was masked. One employee outside had the mask under her nose, otherwise it was ok. Wear kn95 and goggles and gloves to protect yourself.
