I am currently undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy for lymphoma.
I was diagnosed with lymphoma originally in 1992.
This is my fourth series of treatments since then.
Obama and everyone that voted to pass ACA are life savers.
Not only did the pre-existing conditions help me but the elimination of life-term limits.
My current treatment is six cycles and each cycle costs 250K.
I am concerned about the fate of ACA.
We need Biden/Harris, a democratic majority in the House and Senate to fix anything the Supreme Court does.
However, family members who are Trump supporters do not really care about the facts.

(51,590 posts)My health care costs are more than my yearly income on retirement-disability. I will lose all of my savings and have to live off of my mom and sister. I have already spent over $100,000 (I did the math...I was a teacher) of my own money when I couldn't get insurance at all before the ACA. I guess I was right all along...the GOP wants to bankrupt then kill us, in that order.
It is a good thing I am going to die soon (especially since I can't afford to live in the US any longer).
Your last sentence could be sad. As in you are sick? Or old so you like I and all people are going to die soon?

(51,590 posts)Some are the result of teaching in a building full of mold that was eventually torn down (I had to go to the union since the school gave me a fan and a can of Lysol...no windows at all either). That caused a lot of other health issues, one after the other. Finally I had to stop teaching due to it but since there was the ACA I was saved. Teachers don't make much but I was taught by my parents to live within your means, don't go into debt and save every penny. No vacations, nice clothes, house, eating out, going to movies or shows, bare bones around here for my whole life..."in case anything bad or an emergency happened" I would have a little nest egg. Well that little nest egg is going to be gone in a short time with no ACA. Since two of my illnesses are extremely painful I need expensive medication and possibly an operation that 50/50 may or may not do the trick. Since I will die within the next few years I may not have to take too much from my mom and sister.
My goal (which I already set up with my trust) is to leave my nest egg to two animal shelters that I have worked with (foster parent) and got my 2 dogs from. I never wanted kids so am leaving any money I have to them. I don't want it wasted on my health care due to evil GOP bastards.

(20,577 posts)Have you discussed this with your Trump supporters? If so, what do they say to you? I have wondered how people rationalize stripping healthcare from others. They should also fasten their seatbelt because Social Security is on their chopping block too. How many of them are willing to take in the senior relatives?
Mariana
(14,856 posts)but all of the Trump supporters in my family ARE the senior relatives. They do not and will not believe that any Social Security benefit cuts will affect them, period. There's no convincing them otherwise. They also insist that if the ACA is done away with, I won't be left in the lurch, although they can't explain how that would happen.
It's just like any other religion. The adherents engage in magical thinking.

(32,765 posts)Lower Medicare age. I know that wont work for everyone, but would really help.
Years ago I had a long struggle with Lyme disease. following that period I didnt have insurance. WheN I was able to finally get some coverage, I took a 10k deductible. it cost me $450 a month and zero coverage! It paid for absolutely nothing. I held my breath a lot hoping that I would not break a bone or develop appendicitis. It was hard and very financially burdensome
