USA Today: 4 senators Murkowski, Romney, Collins and Grassley do not support Court Nominations

As near as I can tell this is still just an internet story.

The claim: Four senators — Murkowski, Romney, Collins and Grassley — do not support a Supreme Court nomination vote before January

Following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, President Donald Trump said he would move “without delay” to nominate a successor.

While four GOP senators would need to join Democrats to stop aconfirmation , a viral Facebook posts claims that has already happened.

“4 republican senators now on board..no vote until January on SC,” reads a Sept. 18 Facebook post that has been shared over 1,000 times. “Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Grassley.”

Those Mitch lunches are fatal wounds to democracy.

Specifically that Romney and Grassley had committed. I want able to find any confirmation anywhere in a reliable media source. Grassley earlier indicated that he wasn’t inclined, but hadn’t committed. Has Romney even issued a statement re RBG’s passing? I haven’t seen anything.

The linked article claims exactly what you say - it's a fact check refuting the claim in the OP subject line.

For the right wingers this transcends Trump. They will be seen as having had the chance to defeat Roe and failed to act. Murkowski and Collins can get away with that in their states perhaps but I imagine the pressure on Romney will be intense.

He's a moderate (by Republican standards) 80% of the time, but that remaining 20% when you hit on something where Mormonism comes into play, he does his own thing.

I see him holding out in exchange for favors or influence on the selection. President Dumbass won't name his pick until Turtle has the support lined up behind closed doors. Romney will want someone anti separation of church and state and big on religious exceptions to anything. Unfortunately one of the often mentioned names (Barrett) would fit this label.

from Mitch McConnell, because he has a way of changing minds.

Firm convictions seem to falter when Mitch corners weak-kneed Republicans.

And his power will inevitably decline whether Trump wins or loses. If Mitch goes forward with the nomination process, he'll spell his own decline. And the GOPer Senators know this as well. They must also see that there is no future with Trump as a second term president. They know he's destroyed so much, some of which the country will never get back. They can try to form their own legacies, or they can drown in defeat with the GOP's majority leader.

It looks like McConnell will win re-election because... Kentucky. But McConnell will be a tortured minority leader when the filibuster ends and all McConnell can do is play around with Senatorial technical procedures. My guess is that, if the Senate flips, McConnell will seriously consider retiring after the election even if he wins another term. He put in his years, and his power will be in decline. There may be no reason for him to continue.

Murkowski, Collins, and Grassley showed their hands with the impeachment vote. This is nothing more than opportunism. Their rubber stamps are at the ready.

Two years he said he would not support a SC nominee in an election year while he's Chairman of the Senate Judicial Committee. He's no longer Chairman, Lindsey Graham is.
