I had the TikTok app on my Android phone.

I was curious about what was happening. I'm curious about everything. So, I watched the "Foryou" feed for about half an hour in the evening for a couple of weeks. Since the app didn't really know my interests, that feed showed me a spectrum of short videos on all sorts of topics and from all sorts of perspectives.

After two weeks of that, I deleted the app. I couldn't see any reason to continue using it. Some of the clips were funny. Some were annoying. Some were irrelevant to my interests, and very few were informative about anything of interest to me.

TikTok is not designed to appeal to folks like me. It was amusing for a couple of weeks, but not of enough value to keep it on my phone.

That said, I know it's relevant to many others, so I don't have any objection to it. I'm just not personally interested.

I watched quite a range of the short videos. My problem is that they are too short to hold a complete story about something. I caught onto the copycat nature of the venue pretty quickly, but couldn't see the attraction of dozens of people trying to illustrate how to do some short dance or something.

There were also some fishing videos, some maker videos, etc., but those, too, suffered from their short duration - too short to learn anything from watching them.

I know it's not targeted to any demographic I'm part of, but I'm pretty flexible. Still, I did not find anything with enough value to keep me coming back for more. I didn't even find a topic or topics I could favor to shift the focus of the site. I just wasn't interested enough in any particular type of video to invest the time.

Now, of course, someone is going to tell me that it is a terrible, invasive website that just want's my data. Like that isn't the goal of every social media website on the Internet already...
