So I went to the hardware store today instead of Home Depot

There was a guy in his mid-60s white roaming around without a mask. The whole reason for me going to the hardware store was because Home Depot was packed with people with no masks. I got in line there was a lady ahead of me I stayed back 6 8 feet she had a mask on. She finished up when the man stood right by the cashier and waved me up. I told him that I had cancer and I was just trying to be around people with masks on and the other guy can go ahead of me. The customers standing there said the mask wasn't going to do anything for you I'm not moving. I told them that's fine that I would just put the stuff back and go elsewhere. I also told them if they had cancer they may feel different and I walked out. I was very polite I don't understand the anger in people... I'm also a white guy around 60...

I try to do business with the local businesses but I went to the little hardware in town here, they had the required sign at the door that masks were required so I went in. The first person I ran into was a clerk with no mask, I asked why the sign then he told me I could take mine off if I wanted to I answered back "thanks but I want to live" there have been several instances like that around this little town so I no longer shop there at all, 30 mile drive to get milk as opposed to 12 miles but rather not support asshats so they don't get any of my business in this town at all..

On edit: the home depot in the nearest big town enforces the mask mandate pretty well..

A mask and clear full-face shield is what the medical folks use. You might feel a little strange the first couple times you go in like that, but I'll bet it will wear off. And again, you don't owe anybody any explanation. It's none of their business.

Pro or Con mask to customers. It is really hard to see these idiots with no masks, or masks hanging off their noses. The gravity of covid reality only makes an appearance to them as an actual infection and complications or worse.

Whether those people are being contrary or just witless, I don't know. I just steer clear of them.

Whether an area takes masks serious seems to correlate with the number of local deaths. Perhaps your area doesn't have enough yet.

mask wearing. That's too bad businesses don't enforce it there. I'm around your age. Only go out
one or two days per week. These days however, it seems like it can never be just a normal day anymore. Usually there's one inconsiderate jerk to mess it up. Never seen so many stupid people as I do now!. That's not right that you had to be treated like that! So sorry Tribetime!...

and they had a sign in the window/door that said "Nancy Pelosi exercised her option to not wear a mask at her salon so customers at this salon have the same option and we recommend they exercise it."

They were not open or I may have said something to them. I called the Health Dept. and reported it, as we have an order from them here that requires masks in all indoor public spaces.

Fortunately they have prominent signage saying face coverings are required, and the couple of times I’ve been recently the staff and customers were all being conscientious about masks and distance. They also do curbside pickup if you order online or over the phone, which is my favorite option when I’m sure what I want.
