Sorry this is in GD. My poison ivy rash is pissing me off majorly.

I got beaucoup responses the other day regarding treatment from A to Z. And am trying a lot of them. It seems to be spreading. Driving me mad. On my last nerve.

If anyone responds, I may try to turn in early so I'll get back to y'all first chance. 💙

Then beware of cutting vine....dig it up from ground, do not chainsaw or cut it..I just got done digging over a foot and a half down to get tap root and all I can say is it had spread out for over 6 feet...My wife got it on over half her body...keep the soap on for three minutes before rinsing 0ff...bless you, it is evil shit

Sleeping with it on your body will spread it to more areas on your body.

My neighbor buddy gave me some leftover Clobetasol cream. I don't know what will do the job. I want it to dry up.
Also on Prednisone and got a corticosteroid shot last Thursday.

I may call our community lawn service to yank it out. I don't trust myself. It showed up this year after 4 years of none in a raised bed in a total fenced back area. I figured birds ate berries then dropped seed. Sure enuff, tbe google sez that's how it can spread.

So, it hadn't been established long and may come out easily.

I cleaned areas that I may have touched with the inside of my arm. Like the dryer and the microwave.

Thanks for caring. 💙

It is better than cortisone creams and ointments, it is much stronger. It is alcohol based and will dry out the rash a bit as well, or at least it won’t keep it moisturized. Apply a few times a day- the hot water is really the only other thing that has helped control the itching for me.

Poison ivy does not spread. It just takes longer to turn up depending on how much oil contacted each spot before it appears. You can also get recontaminated from clothes, tools etc. throw away clothes that you were wearing, clean tools with technu, while wearing gloves and protective clothes and then wash cloths and yourself after.

When I had a really severe case I could not sleep- people cringed when they saw the rash, an er doc gave me hydroxyzine which knocked me out enough to sleep. You can’t drive or do anything on that one. The second time I tried it years later for a milder case it did not work though, but it is worth a try. The hot water is the only thing that really works for me and steroids. I tried a hair dryer and it made it worse. I have tried just about everything but bleach. The green clean stuff is awful, it made the itching worse and inflamed the skin a lot.

My advice is leave poison ivy, oak and sumac alone other than pouring vinegar on them I have killed small pi plants with that- or try a herbacide. Don’t dig it, just get a pro to take care of it. I found an article about new research on treating the pi itch, hopefully they will come up with something better soon.

I hope you get some relief soon! For me it seems to go on forever, then the blisters go down, then there are still red lumps and itching, then overnight I wake up and boom the bumps have almost shrunk to nothing ( for a mild case), it is amazing. The itch is significantly better by that point but I still get some less severe itching here and there for a while and I keep using the foam as needed.

Plan D, $300. My neighbor buddy sent me GoodRx coupons for three places locally. $58-70. Whole lot better. I think I will get some. You require an Rx. Only thing, connecting with the doc I did see, not my own PCP, has been an ordeal. They still haven't returned my calls.

I use it for eczema too. It is worth it, maybe try overseas but that could take too long. Maybe go to a clinic or the er. I did that when I couldn’t sleep, they would not give me a shot cause I was on too many pills but he gave me the antihistamine which helped. Just make sure the foam is ok with your shot and pills.

This is the first key step when you believe you've been in contact with poison oak or ivy. The enzymes in the detergent neutralizes and washes away the poison. You can still wash the affected area now (days later), but it's not going to reverse what is already there, it will just help to remove any poison still on your skin. Then you need a prescription strength cream, I have a scrip for Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, .1%. Rub it on the spots, and don't scratch them, lol.
