Mitch is fully signalling that he expects Donald Trump to lose

There are two things Mitch cares about.

1. Judges
2. Being senate majority leader.

He knows that by pushing this judge in pre-election, he jeopardizes #2 even more than it already is. If he thought Trump was going to win, he would know he could get both #1 *AND* #2 by waiting.

The GOP Senators have tipped their hand. They know if they don't get this judge in before the election, they never will.

Because they know Trump is going to lose, and that they will be in the minority.

This is an admission of what their internal really look like.

It isn't "signalling that he expects Donald Trump to lose," it's that he's signalling that he realizes Donald Trump needs "help" from the Supreme Court to "win"...and is making sure he gets it.

10. That depends on the extremity of the question.

And since it looks like they're gonna risk the whole game just to pad the numbers by one in time for the election, it sure looks to me like they're not quite as sure about that outcome as you are. At minimum, this gives them breathing room to exploit for more extreme outcomes.

and it made sense. Mitch is being very strategic with his timing. The minority will continue to rule this country if the GOP gets their judges.

5. Not if we get the WH and Senate

We will create a remedy when we have the power.

But I agree with those who say that the purpose of getting a nomination pushed through now is for the court to hand the election to Trump.

4. The Republicans might be throwing all their SCOTUS gains into the toilet though if they ram this

through because I and a number of others will fully support the Democrats using the nuclear option and increasing SCOTUS to 13 and packing all the new spots with young progressive liberal judges.
Then that 5/4 majority they currently enjoy will become a 7/6 minority.

6. They are salivating at the opportunity to rig the SCOTUS.

If they succeed, they will henceforth use the court to make legislation
which would otherwise fail in Congress -- strike down Roe v. Wade, the
right to have collective bargaining, the ACA, and --especially -- the chance
to install Trump as the king of America and protect him from any criminal
court verdicts. This is how filthy and undemocratic they can be.

7. Will the new justice have to recuse herself from any Trump-related cases?

Wouldn't that make Fat Donnie shit in his pants? It would be Jeff Sessions all over again.

9. Strategically wouldn't it be best for them to wait until AFTER the election but BEFORE

the inauguration ?

Also was the article on possibility of Mark Kelly getting into Senate by November (assuming he wins) a realisitic thing ? If so I can see based on this why he would not wait until after the election.

For the damage he's done, and will do if he gets elected again. He has to go too.

12. Mitch/white house is using this as a distraction
Wed Sep 23, 2020, 05:03 AM

Mitch may think Trump is losing but I think the biggest reason to push a nominee through right now is distraction. People/news is talking more about this than the election. They are talking more about this than how shitty a President Trump is. Essentially this is the October surprise that no one could have predicted.

We need to refocus. The R's are going to do what they will. Honestly, any remedy to this comes with a Biden victory and flipping the Senate.
