This word of caution is from someone who has worked the polls a lot in the past: "More and more, Im seeing women announcing they will be voting with shirts, buttons, masks or hats that say Ruth Sent Me, or something similar. Remember: POLITICAL MESSAGES AREN'T ALLOWED in the POLLING PLACE (that could include BLM shirts, unfortunately.) Also unfortunately, messages can be interpreted by whoever is in charge. It could mean, in some cases, that a voter wearing a shirt they believe is political can be denied the right to vote after waiting in line for hours.
Approach this election strategically and vote smarter and cleaner than ever have before. Understand that the other side will do what it takes to advance their agenda.
We need to vote in record numbers. But we need to vote SMART. We can wear that wonderful Ruth Sent Me shirt or mask when we get home, and raise a glass in her memory.
Please copy, or paraphrase and share with the groups you are members of, as appropriate. Help spread the word so that every vote counts! We all know whats at stake. Do not throw away your shot.

It is illegal to do any politicking 100 ft from the entrance to the voting place, so report any repugs you see closer. It's also illegal to block the entrance, so report that if you are unlucky enough to see it.

(23,099 posts)When Bush was running the last time there was a gauntlet of red shirts and shrub supporters harassing black folks and anyone they could identify as Dems. I got a couple of hard looks, but no one approached me so it's worked so far in this purple area.

(23,099 posts)While they were very busy harassing others who wore buttons or Dem tshirts under their unbuttoned jackets. I have no idea what will happen this time, my voting place is in a very mixed district? That's why I am early voting, not the first day it's available, longer lines then, but the 2nd day. I will also go with my husband who is a substantial man who will also be wearing blue.

(23,099 posts)No political ads within 100 ft of the entrance and that includes clothes. Long ago when I first was voting here, I wore a Dem shirt under a jacket and was stopped by a security guard and had to button the jacket up when he stopped me at the 100 ft. line. These days that political shirt can also get you harassed. Go incognito, but vote blue, of course.

Follow the rules -- the world will (generally) be a better place -- and the polling place is not the place for statements, or confrontation.
